There are better paths to D1 than sprint football. If more money was the end goal then most of the guys at top jobs in KY could go other places to coach and make more money. Coaching college and beginning a new program is a whole other set of headaches a lot of people don’t want to mess with. Again most guys at top jobs are set up pretty well as far as job duties and other such things. You’ll end up coaching in front of larger crowds and better atmosphere at bigger HS jobs than sprint football. Less job security and a change in one’s approach to retirement. The job just isn’t going to be as appealing as some might think.

I’d venture to say there are HS here that have better facilities than Midway. This doesn’t even get into staff, recruiting and a number of other factors. My comment was mainly aimed at the fact that Midway sprint football is not going to have enough appeal to pull what many would consider a big name HS HC.

I'm not saying there aren't coaches out there who totally agree with your thinking. But on the flipside of that, I admittedly think you're closing your mind to what it would be like to ACTUALLY have someone approach you and offer you to be a football coach - and a football coach who doesn't have to teach, for that matter - and to have your household income doubled.

Hell, in the case of Coach James and Coach McKee, they wouldn't even have to relocate. Plus, need I mention the fact that James has clearly already flirted seriously with moving elsewhere for more money?

I hear what you're saying about Midway and facilities....plus about having the mission of starting something from scratch. No doubt, that'll have some folks waiving the opportunity off. But to completely write off things and say, "Mehh, offering more money isn't gonna get myyyyyy high school's coach to think about leaving his job..." well, I guess I would just say, I would hope my school's administrators don't feel that way.

Lots to unpack here….

As far as BU Basketball goes, does Coach actually make that from the University? I know he is active in the community, has basketball camps and does radio. Not sure all his compensation comes from the school?

As far as Sprint Football, I can’t see BU paying Coach Davis the sum reported here. This is a case of a Coach who was unhappy where he was, and as stated by other’s, doesn’t have to relocate to get into college coaching. My GUESS is that Coach Davis will be making less than $100k.

I definitely don't see Coach Davis making anything close to the basketball coach. Davis has made Bellarmine's basketball program into a Division 1 basketball program. Regardless, Bellarmine is a non-profit, and has to publicly report at least some salaries. They did report Davis's salary at $271,996.

I have no idea where that ends up in terms of salary for the sprint football coach, but my assumption is that Davis is probably going to be hovering around the $100K mark, maybe +/- $10K. He also will no longer have any teaching duties to bother with, but will have to start working the recruiting trail.
