Harrodsburg all-time

Featured Replies

School appears to go back to the 1920's, but confused about their current status. Did they become part of Mercer Co Sr High ?

Here is the info I have:

2003-05: Terry Yeast (13-9)

2001-02: Bill Baldridge (11-11)

1998-00: ?????????(23-13)

1975-97: Alvis Johnson (194-77-0)

---1974: Bill Baldridge (incl)

---1973: Alvis Johnson (incl)

1970-72: Bill Baldridge (40-6-1)

Thanks True Blue. Looks like they were a pretty good program. Hope we'll find some folks with some connections to their past.

Didn't Donald Smith succeed Alvis at Harrodsburg? He was a former RB from the early to mid 80's who played at Western I believe.

Harrodsburg at least goes back to the 20's or so. My grandmother graduated from there in the 30's.

Yes. He then left to go to Kentucky State if I remember correctly.

Hatz, do you remember why Alvis coached one season (1973),then Baldridge again (1974) before Alvis again (1975)?

I can't remember for sure if Baldridge left the Harrodsburg system then returned for health reasons or another job.

Donald Wayne Smith went to Lafayette before K-State then Harrodsburg had Robert Smith for one year then Bill Baldridge

Contemplate this list of distinguished H-burg alumni. Talk about a program that put out some players! I'd say I'm leaving out some significant ones too. You guys help me fill in the blanks:

Craig Yeast -- WR at UK (brief stint in NFL, now CFL)

Dennis Johnson -- DE at UK (brief stint in NFL)

Jason Dunn -- EKU (Long career in NFL as TE)

Venus Meaux -- Starter on defense at UK

Julius Yeast -- Signed with Ohio State

Derrick Johnson -- Played at UK

Patrick Bugg -- Current All-American at EKU

Mark Dunn -- Starting RB at EKU

Henry Parks -- Started RB at UK

Donald Smith -- Started RB at WKU

Gus Parks -- EKU

Nick Yeast -- EKU

Bo Yeast -- ?? Did he play college football ??

I've surely left out someone else who went on to play D1 -- help me.

Will be surprised if Brandon Ford and Cory Jackson off this year's team do not play somewhere.

Add Chase Wofford and Freeman Edwards to that list. Edwards is being recruited by several colleges. Wofford will have to make his decision whether to play football or basketball.

Thanks

No, Robert Smith and Donald Wayne Smith were prior to the third stint by Baldridge.

I think this is the correct order:

2003-2005: Terry Yeast (16-17)

2001-2002: Bill Baldridge (11-11 these two years)

------2000: Robert Smith (5-7)

1998-1999: Donald Wayne Smith (18-6)

These are the season records according to KHSAA website:

1998: 9-3 Donald Wayne Smith

1999: 9-3 Donald Wayne Smith

2000: 5-7 Robert M. Smith

2001: 8-4 Bill Baldridge

2002: 3-7 Bill Baldridge

2003: 7-4 Terry Yeast

2004: 6-5 Terry Yeast

2005: 3-8 Terry Yeast

Was the single-wing offense that Harrodsburg ran in the 70's Johnson's idea or was it Baldridge's?

If it wasn't Johnson's idea, he sure perfected it. They beat the crap out of us every year with it.

With the horses he had back then, he could have ran about any offense. Shame they never won it all.

I believe that is why they never won it all.

He didn't run the old, old single wing with all the faking and misdirection (though they did run some). Harrodsburg tried to run power and also capture the ends with their speed. The extra lead blockers allowed a lot of hit at the point of attack. The problem was it was also very predictable and landlocked the way Alvis ran it.
