I'd like to get RollRedRoll's take on Maryville. I've heard that they are a paper tiger. They don't have to play the big boys in 5A (Riverdale, etc.) and they won't play the private schools. If they are playing Hoover at Hoover I guess we will find out what they are made of.

 

A Maryville-Hoover matchup isn't making the rumor rounds on the Tennessee boards as best as I can tell. I find it highly unlikely that Maryville would play Hoover, primarily because MHS's usual three non-region games are with Alcoa, William Blount, and Heritage - all four are schools located in Blount County and are large gate games for the schools. Combine that with the fact that Maryville hasn't played out of state in 30 years, and I find the chances as remote.

 

Gosh, where do I start on Maryville. Let's get numbers out of the way first: 45 in a row, 87 of 89, 123-9 since 1998, 7 DI-4A titles since 1998. No matter what level of football one plays at, those are impressive numbers. While I will not go as far to say they are a paper tiger, because they do play good football with good discipline, they have not played any of the DII private powers in that period, and the DI-5A teams they have played are chops. I have watched Maryville play a few times over the years, and while MHS is solid, I'm not totally wowed, primarily because I have seen MBA, Brentwood Academy, MUS, McCallie, and the like play over the years (the point being, Tennessee's Division II-AAA has at least 2-3 Maryville type programs each year; DI-4A has only one Maryville). Basically, Maryville, while a public school (and an open-zoned public school at that, which is the source of some debate in Tennessee as far as enrollment advantages are concerned), has very similar football characteristics of some of the Tennessee privates (and the Kentucky ones too - T, X, et al.).

 

Long story short, I think Maryville would have represented Tennessee well in out-of-state matchups versus regional/national powers during the past few years, but all other things being equal, I'd probably put one our DII private school powers on the field first in such a matchup due to the strength of schedule in Tennessee's DII. If Maryville is indeed playing Hoover, more power to them; maybe they're getting tired of beating up on Tennessee's DI-4A and are looking for a new challenge.

I just heard that this will not be a regular season game, but a scrimmage.

Lafayette has steadily improved over the last six years. From what I have heard, they are playing Trinity and if they are also playing Hoover I would have to assume that Coach Harmon is attempting to take the next step with his program. I say go for it Lafayette and good luck. I would like to know if T, X, or Male have explored the possibility of playing a top 10 team that is not from Ohio or Tennessee.

 

When is Lafayette or any Fayette County team going to step up and play the one of the best programs in the state in Lexington Catholic, which by the way is only 2 miles down the road? They could make a lot of money and not not have to pay a lot on travel expenses. This would be a hugh game and would be a great rivalry.

The ability to play LC is not in the hands of the Fayette County Coaches. That choice has been made for them by the administration.

This makes no sense. Newsflash, LexCath is viewed as the best team in Lexington year in and year out by the rest of the state. By refusing to play them the Lexington public schools look petty at best and like cowards at worst. I'd say whip LexCath for a few years, then venture out into the national scene. It makes no sense to have a team that is afraid of its own "little brother" take on take on the bully two states away.

Makes plenty of sense, they don't want to play them I am not sure the exact reasons but my suspicions of why are legitimate reasons for some. As for the Lexington schools being cowards that is your opinion you are entitled but "to the rest of the state" it makes alot of sense not to play them.

One last time, the boycott is over. Fayette County Schools can play Lexington Catholic. Teams are trying to play Lexington Catholic just having problems with scheduling conflicts for next season. They will play in at most a couple of years.

The boycott is not over. Lexington schools will play Lex Cath in the regular season if it impacts districts, but a certian Fayette Co. public school head coach tried to schedule Lexington Catholic in football, but it was nixed by Fayette Co. administration.

Then you need to tell Stu Silberman the Supierintendent the email he sent out to all the head coaches about 10 months saying "you can schedule Lexington Cathlolic" that he is wrong.

 

Corbin tried to get Dunbar to play Lexington Catholic this year in their bowl game but both parties thought it would be stupid to have such a HUGE game at Corbin where Corbin gets the big money off of the crowd while Lexington Catholic and Dunbar get a usual bowl game check. Dunbar and Lexington Catholic are trying to get a home and home so they can profit off of the big crowd.
