KC aims to contain Sloan in Monticello

One of the most competitive first round games, anywhere in any class. Wayne and Knox Central missed out on a chance to size each other up in the regular season. Both defeated Lincoln County by comfortable margins and both got handled by Corbin, though Braedon Sloan didn't play against the Redhounds.

Obviously Sloan is the focal point anytime you face the Cardinals. The Mr. Football candidate currently leads the state in scoring and rushing yards per game by a hefty margin. Knox Central spreads the ball around more, with a two headed backfield of Seth Huff and Ethan Mills, plus Abram Brock as a big play threat at receiver.

Wayne County spent all season in the 4A top 10, while Knox Central joined them there for all but two weeks. Anymore, it seems like nine out of every ten first round games are destined for a running clock. Class 4A is blessed with several openers that should make for thrilling games, and this is definitely one of them.

Wayne 28-21.

This one seems capable of producing a close ballgame, but if Sloan is healthy I believe Wayne wins comfortably. Wayne's win over Barren in the final week, combined with Knox Central not playing, likely took this from a home game for Knox Central to a home game for Wayne County.

Braedon Sloan 23 yard TD

WC 6 – KC 0  11;51 2nd

1 yard Brady Worley keeper TD Knox Central

2 pt fake good

WC 6 – KC 8  5:45 2nd

WC 14 – KC 8  3:31 2nd

Weaver to Burchett, TD Wayne County

Weaver to Shelton 2 pt good

WC 22 – KC 8  0:51 2nd

Untimed down from an unsportsmanlike penalty on WC

28 yard pass Worley to Fisher TD Knox Central

2 point try no good

WC 22 – KC 14  Half

KC will receive 2nd half kick

Mr. Football candidate Braedon Sloan 1st half stats:

16 attempts for 118 yards, 1 TD

1/1 passing for 5 yards

If Wayne County can find any pass defense at all they'll pull away.  They simply can't cover the pass.  Knox converted 3rd and 4th downs at will in the first half.

61 yard pass Worley to Fisher TD Knox Central

Worley to Fisher 2 pt good

WC 22 – KC 22  11:06 3rd
