The trajectory of Comet's impact aimed at Red Devil Hill

West Carter was cruising along at 5-0 before a last minute trip to Paintsville two weeks ago turned sour in the second half. It appeared they were falling victim to a little hangover against Boone County in Week 7, before Leetavious Cline was unleashed on the Rebels, scoring all four of West Carter's touchdowns in the 26-13 Comets win. He's reached the century mark on the ground in all seven games so far this year.

Russell got an unexpected week off after their game with East Carter was cancelled. Sometimes you want to get back out there following a humbling loss and wash the taste of that defeat out of your mouth. But in Russell's case, an extra week off after the Ashland loss may be just what the doctor ordered, allowing the Red Devils an opportunity to reset and hopefully get some key people healthy.

Russell and West Carter have met 27 times on the football field. The Red Devils have walked away victorious every time. A one sided series like that can take a toll on the oppressed, but at some point, enough is enough. Is that point this Friday? West Carter certainty hopes so, while Russell will do everything in its power to extend the Comets' futility another year.

If the streak is ever going to end, it will happen Friday.

I tend to agree. The air feels right for West to have their breakthrough in this series. It doesn't help the perception of Russell coming into this game that the last time we saw them, they were getting run off the field at Putnam. We were robbed of an opportunity to see Russell last week against a common opponent.

There have been years in the past where I felt West had the skill people to beat Russell, but Russell had a huge edge in the trenches. The offensive line is a weak spot for them this year, so if West can an least hold their own at the line of scrimmage, they could find themselves in good position to get the Russell monkey off their back.

I agree. The gap in the trenches isn’t near as big as normal. WC will still have their hands full up front but I think they matchup up better this year than they have any of the past few.

Is this game is still going to be played I had heard that all athletic events other than post season games were going to be postponed.

That's good. I was just saying what I was told this morning when I was checking if the East Middle 8th grade girls team were going to be allowed to play in the OVC semifinals tonight.

7-0 Russell after 1, 3 yard td run by Ethan Oborne.

The touchdown was set up by a Jachimczuk to Lykins deep ball. Nathan Conley is active tonight, but might see limited action.

This is a defensive slug fest so far.
