Running clocks & 60 player rosters

Featured Replies

I was thinking at large schools that normally dress 100 kids, when it’s a blowout you can substitute a 4th or 5th string player. With 60 man roster the 3rd string players can be much better and may have to have more creative ways to not run up score. I’ll be interested how this could play out.

I could see this happening in Trinity games where they are far superior team.

I would also think that if you are a team that two platoons you may get the 2nd string and the pounding will continue.

I agree. I think I saw Boyle County dressing 40 so could be some pounding in a few of their games.

One of the unintended consequences of limiting rosters on Friday night.

Come on KHSAA, rethink this one.  It is not fair to high school athletes on many levels.

For those teams with rosters larger than 60 players, how are they choosing the last 10 or 20 players to dress each week? Or they rotating those? Are they doing it by class e.g. all seniors and juniors dress and sophomores take turns dressing?

I imagine some will go off depth chart. I know Coach Wallace last year traveled with less than what dressed at home.

I think Boyle will try for a running clock and call the dogs off in all games, but I don't see that till the back half of their schedule.   Boyle will not have the running clocks like last years team did.
