Is it easier to find 14 players if you have 100 boys to choose from or 750boys. You let me have the 750 and I'll beat you every year. 1 in 10 kids may be good players. At small schools you will usually only have 5 or 6 Seniors and Juniors who can play at any given time. At larger schools you will have 7or 8 kids a class. The chances of coming up with 4 or 5 quality pitchers within 6 players is nearly impossible. Truly gifted pitchers are born not created. You can change 80 mph to 90 a lot easier than 70 to 90. What do you think the percentage of kids are who can throw 80 mph. Clearly numbers are a big advantage.

Are you referring to my compromise? Are you talking about a specific rule or something? If we can break the state into classifications then we can have another tournament at the end. :ylsuper:

Not to be rude but you have yet to say why my compromise won't work. It may not work but there has to be a reason for it failing.

 

You break each class up and get rid of the district runner up going to the region. With fewer teams by going to classes you could eliminate the sectional tournament. Now the season is short by a week. Take that week and have the 4 class champions play a tournament.

 

Now you have 4 state champions and 1 super champion.

 

Now other than "It doesn't work that way. You either have classes or you don't" please explain why it won't work.

It defeats the purpose of having classes if you have a championship at the end. You don't call someone a state champion, then ask them to play again.

 

Most of the other 49 states have classes. None have a tournament at the end. The Florida Gators won't be playing the Div. II champ. It doesn't work that way.

I just don't think you are looking at the whole picture. The issue is one group wants classes so more people can have a better chance at a state championship and the other group wants it to stay the same so we know who the "true" state champ is.

 

You get both of those by doing this - a single A team will be able to be a state champ every year and so will the other classes. Then they play to see who is the best of the best. You honestly think a small school like Beechwood, Pikeville or Phelps wouldn't be proud of a state championship although they got beat in the first round of the super championship? They would be putting banners up and having parades like crazy.

 

Florida won't play the DII champ but what I propose is similar to what goes on in college already. Every team plays a conference championship tournament and then moves onto the national championship tournament. You always see where a team is proud of a conference championship and have banners put everywhere showing it.

 

Who cares what the other states do - why can't we start some sort of trend that other states adopt?

The problem with the statement "having Florida play the DII champ", who wants to be considered DII, or DIII. Is that how the smaller schools would be thought of? Here is an idea...(shaky at best) how about during the All A Classic having every class do their own tournament, not at the end of the year but whenever the All A is going on with the winners considered that classes champ. That way it will be considered just like any other tournament and you will still have your true state champion at the end of the year.

You are completly correct KYthorobred that there will always be controversy but really what you propose is really not that different than what I am saying. Besides to put on a tournament like that would be a scheduling nightmare for teams.

 

But if you did do it you could line up the use of several college fields to host the various championships.
