Nothing irked me more than several years ago when people tried to make case that Whitney Creech was more deserving of Miss Basketball than Erin Boley because HER STATS were better. But even then no one tried to claim Creech was an overall better player than Boley cause just looking at stats says so little. Should POY/Miss Basketball be awarded based on who people think is the better college prospect? Creech's stats were better, bordering on historic. Are you saying she wasn't worthy of being chosen Miss Basketball?

You have another player in mind you think deserves Gatorade POY more? I think Meredith from Scott would have given her a run if she hadn't been injured. She posted some impressive numbers as a sophomore. But even though she wasn't in the mix this season I'm sure there's a list of players with better stat lines.

She is the complete package. A true 6’ point guard Lebron type of player. She does what she needs to do for her team. Never cared about stats. She’s one of them. BUT. If you watch her in the Summer. Completely different animal!!

Maybe you missed my point that Maddies stats were better than any Kentucky player if you include all categories. For sure top 5 in state. But either way, this award, I would guess has nothing to do with stats but has to do with who is the best player. I heard Mya did very well in the summer playing with maddie, so maybe she did have a chance to win Gatorade? I’ve seen Mya several times in school ball. She is a dominant player there but in my opinion she’s not on Maddies level. Never saw them together in the summer

Creech played against mountain teams since the 6th grade. These teams often comprised of many middle school players while she was a senior. She took 101 shots a game. Rewarding a player because of where they’re born does not seem remotely reasonable for her to win Miss Basketball. There was several better players than her her senior year. And since then there have been no Miss Basketball winners I would give Creech the nod over. There are girls all over the NCAA in top 25 colleges making big impacts and Creech is not one of them.

They know more than I do. My only point is statistics usually are a pretty good indicator

 

A) your first sentence above is spot-on: coaches around the country, who watch all of the top players through the AAU circuit, were lining up for her.

 

B) statistics are a pretty good measure if every team plays the same schedule, and every roster is constructed the same way. The Macke kid at West Virginia (walk-on) led KY in points and rebounds last year while at Silver Grove, would you say that was a good measure of how good he was as compared to the rest of KY? Of course it wasn't. Stats are super-misleading.

One more for anyone who would be doubtful of maybe when its all said and done to be one of the best to ever come out of our great state. This aint hard.

She is an incredible talent in every facet of the game. I’ve never seen her except on video but that’s enough evidence for me. Unlike in men’s highlight videos where it’s mostly a dunk fest, girls basketball videos show the real fundamental skills and Maddie has them all.

I sure would have loved to have seen her wearing the blue and white at UK.
