December 9, 200619 yr The AP poll is not part of the BCS anymore. But I am assuming they can still vote the AP national champion different. Even though it will have no outcome on the BCS champion.
December 9, 200619 yr I say, if UM wins and Florida wins, let the two play each other the next week in the Oops We Blew It Bowl for the true national championship. Should Florida beat OSU... how did they blow it?
December 9, 200619 yr I don't see it happening seeing that Florida would have beaten Ohio State, something Michigan did not.
December 9, 200619 yr Wow thats a good quesiton, that would just show about how bad they need a change.
December 9, 200619 yr Personaly I dont thin k UM has a chance because if Florida wins the voters will say well they did what Michigan couldnt do, beat Ohio State. And I was a fan of Michingan getting in the title game buf if the voters put Florida in and they beat Ohio State and they dont give the whole title to them then shame on them.
December 10, 200619 yr I think the chances for Michigan are not very good. Let's face it, if Florida beats tOSU even by a slim margin, they will have done something Michigcan failed to do. Plus, poll voters may use an Ohio State loss as an excuse to re-evaluate the toughness of the Big Ten this year. Another thing to consider is that LSU (who lost to Florida by 13) will probably throttle Notre Dame, further damaging the quality of one of Michigan's few quality wins. I just don't see a split national championship as very likely. I understand, but I read something that put a little different spin on what your saying. First, if UM soundly beats USC, what does that say about the Arkansas win that "supposedly" vaulted UF to the #2 spot? I think we can all agree that the title game matchup has a lot to do with voters not wanting to see 2 things. First, they didn't want to see a rematch. Second, they didn't want to see 2 teams from the same conference play in the title game. So I think you'll see a lot of votes that may have previously been more against the above scenario, change, now that 1 Big 10 team would be out of the equation(OSU). Also playing into this equation will be how well LSU and Auburn play in their respective bowl games. Personally, I don't think it will happen. As many of you know, I don't think UF has a snowballs chance to beat OSU. Plus, the UM/USC game should be a very good game, and I don't forsee a lopsided score. For those of you that don't think that UM has a shot, just look at the past history involving UM. In 1997 UM, #1 at the time, barely beat Washington St. in the Rose Bowl. Nebraska just throttled their opponent in their bowl game, and we came away with a split. And that was with the #1 team actually winning their bowl game, making this scenario all the more likely. Down with the BCS I say!!
December 10, 200619 yr Before you laugh, consider this scenario (and it's the only one in which I can see a split happening). Michigan beats USC Florida beats Ohio State Who is #1 in the final AP Poll? I have a strong suspicion that unless Florida rocks Ohio State, the AP will vote Michigan #1. Any thoughts? Florida would be the national champion in that scenario. It doesn't matter if Florida beats OSU 2-0 and Michigan beats USC 49-0. Florida is still the champ. It's how the BCS is now set up - there would be no controversy (except in Michigan fans minds).

Down with the BCS I say!! I remember the 1997 season. I just think this season is a little more clear cut, since Michigan and Ohio State have already played. I don't think Washington State, Michigan, Nebraska, or Tennessee (Nebraska's Orange Bowl opponent) had played each other prior to the bowls. Also, Tennessee was ranked #3 going into the Orange Bowl and Washington State was ranked 8th going into the Rose. This year, #1 Ohio State is playing #2 Florida State and #3 Michigan is playing BCS #5 (#7/8 in the polls) USC.

'IF" this scenerio as you described it plays out, Imo there is still no chance of a split title. The title would go to Florida bc they would win the National Championship Game. That team up north had their chance to be in it and lost............bottom line. The winner of the OSU/Fla. game will be the National Champion.

That team up north had their chance to be in it and lost............bottom line. The winner of the OSU/Fla. game will be the National Champion. I still claim we had our chance to be in it and 33 voters decided that 2 teams from the same conference couldn't be in the NC game. But I agree, if we took care of business in Columbus, it wouldn't matter. Didn't USC win a share of the title even though they weren't in the NC game a couple of years ago? Somehow, I don't think the AP sees the NC game as the end all be all as far as who wins the national title. Regardless, this scenario has about a .001% chance of happening, realistically.

There is still a very real possibility that they could not be the AP champion. Therefore we could definately see a split title. Just look at USC/LSU in 2003. LSU, the #2 team wins in the NC game by 7. USC, the #3 team, wins in the Rose Bowl against the #4 BCS team, by 14. Split title. And that's even less than what we've been talking about, with a close win on one end, and a blowout on the other.

Still trying to make a case for them! It didnt happen, sorry, take care of business against SC, be preaseason #1 next year, run the table like O$U did and win it next year!

It didnt happen, sorry, take care of business against SC, be preaseason #1 next year, run the table like O$U did and win it next year! I'd hardly call my post whining. I think I've said twice now that I don't think there is a very good chance of the scenario happening. All I am stating is that there certainly is a precedent for such things in this crazy BCS system. I'll gladly eat my crow if UF comes out and gives OSU a game........
