Conner 55 Newport Central Catholic 52

A little closer than I expected, but a win is a win.

I'm so happy for Matt, he is doing a great job with the Cougars.

Coach Otte is the most underrated coach in the region in my opinion. Does things the right way. Congrats to Conner on the good win.

Not trying to start WW III, but the whistles man, ugh the whistles.

Bad calls, or missed calls a’ plenty.

The officials on numerous occasions had to stop to confer, and oftentimes would come out of the huddle with head scratching results.

Not making it up, but the game became a bit difficult to watch with all of the stoppages, and it’s not hard for me to come away thinking that the Cougars, who are now on a 14 game winning streak, twice in 3 days get a ‘W’ compliments of the officials.

To be clear, I’ve nothing at all against Conner as I think that they’re talented, Jalen Scott is a joy to watch, and Otte is a great coach...

@B-Ball-fan I prepared a little commentary about officiating that I wanted to include in my ratings a few weeks ago, but I seem to be ticking people off every week.

It does seem I've heard more complaints about officiating this year compared to previous years.

Conner has come a long way in the last couple of seasons.

Wasn't at this game- but the worse officiated game I have seen in many, many years also took place at Newport Central Catholic this year.

Seems like I remember others complaining about the refs at NCC also.

Was talking to someone last night who alluded to the Holmes/NCC 2OT game as having some rough officiating, so I wonder if that's the game you're talking about.

I hear ya @PP1 ...you do seem to take a bit of undeserved flak considering all of the time, and thought that you put into your weekly review. I for one dig reading it, but I suppose that it comes with the territory. I’ve never seen a time when review writers don’t take any heat, so I suppose that you knew going in what you were getting yourself into. :lol2:

I hope that you continue to write it, and it appears that you’ve developed thick enough skin to just laugh off the splattering of objection that you get.

Anyone, and especially this season with all of the parity, will have difficulty calling it right 100% of the time with something that borders on the subjective anyhow. Even after head-to-head results it’s hard to say sometimes when this or that team has players out with injuries etc…

Regarding the officiating, I can’t really say as I’ve not been to every game of course, and that too often times can be subjective. Perhaps before the season began officials were ordered to call certain things more tightly for one reason or another.

Two nights in a row I saw a petty charge called on a player getting the defensive rebound surrounded by opposing players, and when the guy moves a bit to get some spacing his heroic rebound is then rewarded with IMO a crappy call. :irked:

I hate it like crazy to see good basketball rewarded with crappy calls. All too often I see perfectly clean blocks get rewarded with a foul being called. It’s as if a ref anticipates it, and is too quick with his whistle, and then has to justify blowing it. :irked:

Last night I saw ridiculous no calls of obvious traveling.

One bizarre incident Mullikan was posting up, and the whistle blows...but before any call is made the refs huddle for a conference. Everyone around me is looking confused, but I personally thought that with 6 hands on him that surely a foul was about to be called, but nope, after they come out of the huddle, they call traveling on Mullikan.

Really? It took that long to decide on a travel?

I have to give Mullikan a pat on the back because the kid never gets razzled by bad calls, he just maturely takes them in stride. That’s more than I can say about myself. (No...I’m not one of those screamer types… I promise) :lol2:

Anyhow, I get you not posting what you were thinking about posting, but it does seem to be a worthy discussion, however you and I both know that it could get crazy, and I’ve already got my hand in the craziness. :jump:

Sorry about that.

Or as the kids say these days, sorry, not sorry.

Actually the NCC /Bishop Brossart game- 2 of three refs were atrocious- read the game thread - it talks about it.
