The top two ranked teams in the 8th Region go at it in Shelbyville.

Collins is #9 ranked (per BGP top 20) and has been ranked in the Top 10 all season. The Titans have played an absolutely brutal schedule, and more than held their own. They participated in the King of the Bluegrass, and have won more games against ranked opponents than anyone in the region. Among the Titans' ranked opponents: (either current or at the time of the game):

North Laurel (Collins won by 19)

Madisonville-North Hopkins (won by 1)

Ballard (lost by 7)

Male (lost by 11)

Bourbon County (lost by 2)

South Oldham (won by 1)

Male (lost by 4)

McCracken County (no score as of this writing)

8th Region player of the year favorite Dayvion McKnight leads the Titans in scoring and rebounding, at 21 ppg and 7.7 rebounds. Fellow backcourt running mate Marcellus Vail is averaging 15.5 ppg / 4.9 rebounds. Both are potential division 1 caliber players.

Collins is one of the top two shooting teams in region 8 at 52% from the floor; Collins is also superb at the line, hitting 74.5%. Seven Titans hit over 70% at the line.

Oldham County started the year as something of a mystery. Everyone expected the Colonels to be a good team, but Oldham replaced four starters from last year's 8th Region runner-ups. But the Colonels have proven to be one of the state's best, and have moved up to #13 in the BGP rankings. As of this writing, Oldham County is coming off an 18-point victory over one of the region's better teams, Simon Kenton - their fourteenth consecutive victory, the region's longest current winning streak. (does not include their game Sat 2/8 against Scott High, in which the Colonels were favored).

The Colonels' schedule has not been quite as strenuous as Collins', however, that's not to say Oldham's schedule has been soft. Not hardly. Oldham has only lost to one KY team - the newest 8th Region team, Woodford County, by six points - and Oldham has defeated all of the other major 8th Region contenders - South Oldham, Spencer County, Grant County, North Oldham, Simon Kenton, and Gallatin County. Collins is the only remaining contender Oldham has yet to face.

The Colonels also own victories over 6th region power PRP, 5th region contender LaRue County, 11th Region power Tates Creek, 15th region power Paintsville, and former top 20 team, Beechwood, from the 9th region.

The Colonels' are #2 in region 8 in scoring at over 71 ppg, and #2 in scoring defense. Three starters average in double figures, and center Xander Wagner-Rose is at 9.8 ppg. The Colonels are strong shooters, hitting 49% from the field, 39% from beyond the arc, and 73% at the line. Seven players are hitting over 70% at the line, including the six players who have shot the most free throws.

The two teams have been playing since the year Collins opened (2010-11), and have only skipped two seasons, failing to play in 2012-13 and 2013-14.

Overall, Oldham County leads the series, 9-3. The Colonels won the last meeting, on 2/25/19, in the first round of last year's 8th Region tournament, 51-50. Seven of 12 games have been decided by 7 points or less.

The two teams have met five times in the Region 8 tournament, with Oldham winning 3.

Oldham and Collins have twice squared off for the Region 8 title, with Oldham winning in 2012 and Collins winning in 2015.
