The Oldham County Colonels host the Simon Kenton Pioneers on THURSDAY 2/6/2020.

Time: 7:30 pm ET

Place: Oldham County HS

Broadcast: 7 pm ET live video coverage on The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN

The Oldham County Colonels are 20-2 (as of this writing) and winners of 12 straight, with wins during that stretch over some quality opposition, including #15 South Oldham, Beechwood, North Bullitt, Paintsville, North Oldham, and Tates Creek.

Oldham will play highly-regarded LaRue County on Tuesday before facing fellow region 8 contender Simon Kenton on Thursday in Buckner.

The Colonels right now are perhaps the most consistent team in the 8th region and they've parlayed that consistency on both offense and defense into the top ranking in the 8th.

Simon Kenton may have just lost to a top 5 team in Covington Catholic, but the Pioneers proved their ability to compete in the 8th on Saturday with a victory over Collins. The Pioneers are healthy, talented, and a solid group of shooters. Kelly Niece appears to be back to full strength - he had 39 in the win over Collins - and Jeremy Davis is one of the 8th's best three point shooters.

Who wins this game and why?

This is an easy to pick, OC going away. Quite simply put, OC has more talent.

Oldham is playing wwll and has outshined SK in the common opponent category. SK is good enough to win but OC at home is going to take a good effort.

Agreed, beating OC on their home court is no easy task. SK will face pressure from the start of the game. If they settle in and handle it they can make the game close, but OC will still be the solid favorite.

I like the way both teams are playing right now....this game couldn't have come at a better time for the fans. The teams are pretty healthy and both playing at the top of their games.

Both will present some serious challenges to each other.

Oldham County 8-0 at home this year so far.

SK 4-2 in "true" road games this year, with losses at Grant County and to #2 ranked Covington Catholic.

Kelly Niece of SK has been hot of late, averaging nearly 23 ppg over the last four contests. He's now moved up to be the Pioneers' leading scorer at 16.9 / game.

This should be a great one in Buckner.

Oldham now has won 13 straight, and got a nice win over a strong 5th region team, LaRue County, on Tuesday.

Simon Kenton went to Warsaw and exorcised some demons, defeating Gallatin County soundly. During the game, Kelly Niece tallied his 1,500th point - and the junior still with 1+ season to play...

This has been a very competitive series since SK joined the 8th Region in the 2005-6 season. SK won 6 of the first 11 games, but Oldham County has won six straight in the series and now leads the overall series since 2005-6, 11 games to 6.

The two teams have met in the Region 8 tournament four times; Oldham is 3-1 against SK in the region tournament, including a 63-57 victory over SK in the 2007 title game. SK won the most recent meeting in the region tournament, defeating Oldham, 60-57 in the 2014 Region 8 Semi-finals.

These are two excellent shooting teams.

Overall shooting: SK 51.3%; Oldham County 48.8%

Three point shooting: Oldham 38.2%, Simon Kenton 38.1% (talk about eerily similar, Oldham is 170 of 445 beyond the arc; SK is 171 of 449 beyond the arc).

Free throw shooting: SK 74.5%, Oldham County 72.5%.
