1) Pulaski County (17-3) – Pulaski County takes the top spot this week as they have won their last seven including three wins last week over Clay County, Casey County, and Russell County. Colton Fraley continues to lead the Maroons with Zach Travis, KJ Combs, Caleb Sloan, and Grant Oaks joining him as players averaging double figures in points. They face three regional opponents this week in Somerset, Rockcastle County, and East Jessamine.

 

2) Somerset (17-3) – Somerset defeated Gallatin County in the first round of the All A State Tournament but fell by 1 to eventual champion St. Henry in the quarterfinals. Kade Grundy scored 35 for the tournament while Dylan Burton complemented him well with 25 (17 of those in the win over Gallatin County). The Briar Jumpers face Pulaski County and Anderson County this week.

 

3) Danville (14-5) – Danville had the week off but faces the Garrard County Golden Lions and Brayden Sebastian Monday before taking on Marion County.

 

4) Lincoln County (14-6) – Lincoln County’s week featured wins over Garrard County and Madison Central before the fell to Bardstown at John Hardin on Saturday. Both Elijah Frye and Jaxon Smith are averaging just shy of 13 points per game, which accounts for 46 percent of their average points per game total as a team (roughly 56). They face McCreary County Central, Boyle County, and Christian County this week.

 

5) East Jessamine (13-6) – The Jaguars failed to compete with Lexington Catholic but bounced back with a win over the Panthers of Carroll County. They have some big tests this week with pure road games against Woodford County and Mercer County before a neutral site game in the North/South Shootout at West Jessamine against Pulaski County.

 

6) Boyle County (8-7) – The Rebels split the week with a loss at Collins and a win at Garrard County. Luke Imfeld (21) and Owen Barnes (19) combined for 40 in the win over the Golden Lions. They face Madison Southern this week in addition to having a shot at redemption against Lincoln County. The Patriots handed the Rebels a thirty point loss just a few weeks ago.

 

7) West Jessamine (10-9) – The Colts had a major win over district foe Mercer County though their week also included a loss to Madison Central. They play Shelby County, Madison Southern and Southwestern this week.

 

8) Mercer County (12-8) – The Titans had blowout wins over Burgin and Heart for Christ but could not pull off the district win over West Jessamine. They have two district rematches this week (Burgin and East Jessamine) as well as a matchup against Corbin.

 

9) Southwestern (13-9) – Southwestern picked up two wins this week over McCreary Central and Bell County, the latter being an overtime victory buoyed by Cole Dysinger’s 16 points.The Warriors play regional foes Wayne County and West Jessamine.

 

10) Wayne County (12-9) – The Cardinals went 2-2 last week, ending it and their trip to the Toyota Classic with a 6 point loss to Great Crossing. Thomas Spencer is averaging 22.3 points per game. Wayne County plays Knox Central, Southwestern, and Middlesboro this week.

 

11) McCreary County Central (7-13) – The Raiders competed with Southwestern but fell 47-40. Alex Heath is averaging 14 points per game. He also registered 9 points and 8 rebounds in the loss to Southwestern. They play Lincoln County, Lynn Camp, and Cumberland County this week.

 

12) Danville Christian (11-6) – Danville Christian ended up having an off week. They play Garrard County and Casey County this week. A pair of wins would improve their in-region record to 5-2.

 

13) Rockcastle County (6-13) – The Rockets defeated Barbourville but were soundly defeated by the Cardinals of Wayne County. They face Marion County, Model, and Pulaski County this week.

 

14) Garrard County (3-14) – The Golden Lions could not hang with Boyle County and Lincoln County last week and hope to show improvement as they take on Danville, Danville Christian and Model this week. A perfect week may resurrect the early season talks of Garrard County being a sleeper now that Brayden Sebastian is healthy.

 

15) Casey County (2-18) – The Rebels lost to Pulaski County and Western Hills last week. They face Danville Christian in a regional matchup this week before facing off against Adair County and Russell County.

 

16) Burgin (2 – 18) – The Bulldogs went 1-3 last week with a win over Frankfort Christian. Their busy week starts with a rematch against Mercer County and also includes games against Berea, St. Francis and Frederick Fraize.

 

17) Kentucky School for the Deaf (0-8) – The Colonels fell to both the North Carolina School for the Deaf and the South Carolina School for the Deaf. They are back in Kentucky this week to face the Wellspring Guardians and Frankfort Christian.

Yes. Garrard is going to start getting some significant wins with Sebastian back. You can expect them to be right around 10-12 depending on the rest of the region this week and there’s a great chance they join that 5-10 pack by season’s end.

In the Mercer Vs West Jessamine game Clayton Winter had the biggest impact on the game leading West Jessamine with 24 points and 17 rebounds while shooting 72% from the field. He is their best player and playing as good if not better than any big man in the region. Kaelin Drakeford led Mercer with 27 points and 13 rebounds.

The crazy thing is one of those 2 teams will be a district loser in the regional. I would hate to be the district winner that draws that team.
