January 6, 20206 yr Author I've never really tried my hand at wood working, but I am super jealous of people who are great craftsmen. If you have patience you can do it.
January 6, 20206 yr Made these for my kids. Cornhole by Greg Brimer, on Flickr Sweet! Where did you get the stencil for the bird head? I'm going to attempt to make a set with a buddy of mine this spring. Is it just a sticker or did you paint it?

January 6, 20206 yr Author Thank you. I painted it. I made a stencil at work. I cut it out of 1/16 thick stainless steel. I used a water jet to cut it out. Took for ever to paint. I had to do one color at a time.

That was before I started routing. Now I put the stencil on the wood by transfer then I rout it out and paint. I'm also retired and don't have access to the water jet lol.
January 8, 20206 yr This is all really great work @Mayfieldsportsfan. The dovetail work and stain on that chest are sharp. This post reminded me of my grandpa. He was a master carpenter who made the natural transition to woodworking after he retired. He made everything from coffee tables to display cases to dressers to buckboard benches and even a couple of cornhole boards of his own. He passed away in November of 2018 and took with him a world of woodworking knowledge. I wish I had spent more time doing projects with him. There was a lot to learn there.

I feel the same way about my father. He could do anything. I moved to Kentucky 30 years ago and lost a lot of time with him. It's the only thing I regret about moving here. He was my best friend. He died a week before my wife 6 years ago. My son and I woodwork together in winter.

My son is just a junior in high school, but that's what we've done the past three or four years. I treasure the time we get to spend together probably more that what we've made.
