Here is the 9th region KHSAA RPI as of this morning:

.................................Opponents WP...........RPI

1. Highlands.................. .48086.............. .68939

2. Covington Catholic...... .61439.............. .63000

3. St. Henry................... .53063.............. .61219

4. Newport.................... .51216.............. .60702

5. Holy Cross................. .66222.............. .58243

6. Beechwood................ .53795.............. .57297

7. Conner...................... .54515.............. .56547

8. Newport Catholic........ .50840.............. .55725

9. Lloyd........................ .46069.............. .54742

10. Holmes................... .57467.............. .53385

Starting to look more accurate. Put Covington Catholic at #1 and that is a legit listing IMO. The Holy Cross strength of schedule is an interesting piece of info. The defect of the KHSAA RPI rankings (football and basketball) is evident here though - strength of schedule is not a big enough factor in the rankings.

I struggle to understand this. Holmes' opponents WP is the 3rd highest yet they are 10th in the region for RPI yet Lloyd's opponent's WP is the lowest and they are #9.

And does this take into account home/away/neutral courts? I am interested in learning more about this.

I knew Holy Cross' opponents win % had to be one of the highest the first month of the season and this proves that. I think they should be at least 7 or 8 in the region but rankings don't mean much of anything except for discussion. Thanks for posting VOR.

To the bolded, game location is not a factor. I invite you to navigate through the KHSAA website links regarding RPI. It is explained ad nauseum.

Holmes actually takes a hit for playing out of state opponents South Dearborn and Taft. Their WP, OWP and OOWP are all calculated at .50000.

Wins are still the most important factor in RPI calculations. At this time, or any other, 14/1000 of a point difference between Lloyd Memorial and Holmes is insignificant.

Folks get too worked up over this stuff, especially since it has no bearing on seeding / home court advantage come tournament time.

From the first line of the KHSAA's expaination of the RPI in their news release, "RPI was implemented in all sports as a publicity tool." That's telling.
