Franklin-Simpson 56 Allen County-Scottsville 20

Featured Replies

Anyone know why there was a personal foul fest on ACS in the 2nd half? Took a very long time to sort out. Just wondering if anyone knew.

It all happened after an ACS fumble recovered by FS. All the FS players were a good distance away as the defense had gone to the sideline and the offense was beginning to huddle.

It seemed to be between the officials and a couple of ACS players and then an ACS coach.

After all the flags were picked up there was a long discussion on the ACS sideline between the officials and coaches.

End result was three half the distance penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct. The ball was all but in the end zone

Thank You! Kinda confusing when it happened.

I thought I remembered only two unsportsmanlikes. The fumble was recovered on the 20 and then two half the distances to put it on the five. I never figured out who the first one was on, but there’s no doubt the second was on Coach Hood. I’m not sure what he was arguing about exactly, but he was passionate about it. Enough that even after the flag he called a timeout to continue the discussion. I will say the inadvertent whistle that negated a first down for Allen Co.-Scottsville on their first possession sure didn’t set a good tone for good feelings towards the officials. Even though the muffed punt afterwards ended up giving the Pats the ball on the same spot. Or the time they lost another first down on an illegal formation penalty for which I don’t recall a flag being thrown, and the chains had already been moved. Maybe it stemmed from that.

The officials had a rough night. I also thought there were only 2 unsportsmanlike penalties after that fumble recovery and the ball should have been on the 5 yard line but it was actually on the 2 and a half. I can only assume they called a third one or they just misplaced the ball, which was very possible with that crew.

I even felt bad for the Patriots after the inadvertent whistle. Then on the illegal formation there was a flag thrown on the FS sideline by the line judge. Then he just stood there and watched as the chains were moved across the field. When the referee noticed he wasn’t moving into position for the next play, they got together and realized they needed to move the chains back. Problem is, the chains should have been reset at the 20 and 30, because that possession started after a touchback on the kickoff. However they were placed at the 22 and 32. They ran one play then ACS had third down at the 29. They threw incomplete on 3rd and 3, but if they had a 3rd and 1 which it actually should have been, they may have run for it and converted it. I was surprised there wasn’t more of an uproar from the Patriots sideline but they may not have noticed it in the confusion.

There were two unsportsmanlike penalties on players Then one on Coach Hood.

A better way to handle the situation may have been to throw the first flag then go to the coach rather than litter the field with more flags.

On the other hand I have no idea what was said or how much was said so maybe the officials showed great restraint.

On to Madisonville.
