Corbin 92 Whitley County 38

Interesting turn of events tonight. It appears that one exceeded expectations and one fell below anticipated hopes. I suppose one has to remember that improvement does not always equal successes, especially when the opponent could have progressed at a greater pace. As for the youth factor, it appears to me that both teams had an abundance of new players with the victor having even more youth on the floor for much of the game. Injuries factored in to both sides of the equation with Whitley still missing some ailing players and Corbin being without the services of upperclassmen Barley & Cashen. With all this being stated, I for one thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition of effort and defense on the part of the Redhounds and would like to issue my sincerest congratulations to the coaching staff. Perhaps the true measure for this team of Redhounds will come next week with the likes of worthy opponents in Cawood, Bell, and Knoxville Catholic.

A good win for the Hounds, they are going to have their ups and downs a little this year, but it appears that effort and teamwork are going to be the keys to this team getting to where they want to go. The competition picks up next week and should test these young Redhounds.

Whitley needs to keep their heads up at they ran into a hungry bunch of Hounds tonight, the Colonels have some talent but have a ways to go to compete with the upper portion of the region.

I really don't think this was an unexpected outcome. I think Coach P. made his point by pressing the entire game until about 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter. (Which raised some eyebrows) I was impressed with the defense of Whitley in the first quarter, but they had no offense, since they could not get a shot off agianst the Hounds. Whitley will come along as the season progresses but they will not challenge teams like Corbin and South Laurel this year, or maybe even next.

Congrats to the Hounds on a solid but expected victory.

To the Colonels its back to the drawing board, but keep working it will come.

I am sure Whitley will return the favor if the shoe ever gets on the other foot. Corbin played all their kids that dressed. I think they played mostly 2- 3 zone in half court the fourth quarter. That is about all you can ask. I recall Coach Deaton putting a few hurtings on the Colonels when he coached the Redhounds as well. I agree the Colonels will improve as the season progresses. Other than a few flagrant fouls I did not see any bad sportsmanship exhibited on either side. One team was hot and the other cold.

The refs let Whitley hang all over Josh Crawford and beat on him most of the game without calling many fouls. He sure handles that better than most would and just keeps on playing. As far as running up the score, you cant tell them not to play hard since there seems to be a lot of competition on Corbin's team for playing time.

Don't put words in my mouth, I did not mention running up the score, I said he made his point by pressing the whole game till about 5 minutes left in the game. No complaints from this observer, but I did hear some grumbling. In my opinion there is no such thing as running up the score. Like somebody above said, you can't tell them not to play hard.

Sorry Johnboy, but it was both ways. And it absolutely did not change the game one itty bitty bit.....

I was a little shocked to see him out there late, when he was clearly limping. Coach P was lucky he did not hurt himself or aggrivate what ever injury he has.....
