I hope Russell doesn't over look this team because of their 1-3 record. I am pretty sure the coaches won't let that happen though. Never underestimate your opponent.

3-1 Russell debuts in the top 10 this week and will be hosting 5A Montgomery. Montgomery has struggled since week 1 and is at 1-3. Russell is becoming known for a stingy defense. Montgomery will have to overcome that to get the win.

Russell doesn't have a quick strike offense like Somerset, or D1 caliber QBs like the Jumpers or Greenup County. This is more of a grind it out style offense that may take some time to get separation. I'm not going to make a brash prediction like "Russell by as many as they want". I expect the Devils to win, maybe by a few scores, but I don't look for a wholly one sided beatdown for four quarters. I do look for a fast paced game, though, with both teams being so run heavy.

Ethan Sanders for Russell is out at least 1 more game. TJ said he would try to get him back for the stretch(District).

The schedule I have shows this as JFL night but it Appears to be Homecoming for Russell per twitter. That must mean Fleming County is JFL night.

I've seen Montgomery County twice this season, though the first time was a scrimmage so I won't weigh in on that performance too much. I haven't seen Russell yet but do know a lot about them, I would put Russell as a 4+ score favorite.

This will be the first meeting between these two schools since sharing an old 3A district during the '87-'90 alignment cycle. Overall, Russell holds a 5-3 edge against Montgomery, including a few games played in Coach McGlone's early years in Flatwoods. The Red Devils participated in several Rec Bowls in Mt. Sterling way back in the day, but never actually played the Indians in any of those bowl games.
