Can Bowling Green continue their winning ways against Warren Central? Will Warren Central be able to surprise the Purples?

This should be a fun game to watch. I was told that Warren Central has only kicked off 1 time in 2 games this year. The rest of the time they have on-side kicked. That's alot! I don't think giving BG the short field the majority of the time is a good plan IMO. But this Central team has more athletes than they have had since the 2014/2015 teams easily. I look for Central to score some points, but just not be enough.

But once Central gets past the South Warren game (and I don't look for them to beat Franklin Simpson), the Dragons will have a chance in the rest of their games to break a long losing streak. And I hope they do that!

 

I also hope to never see the 1st Quarter BG team that played at McCracken County.

I doubt they are going to change what they do regarding onside kicks against either Bowling Green or South Warren. We may see later on the year if they change it in games they expect to be more competitive in, but I don't see any point in altering it here. They don't punt either, going for it regardless of where they are. I've read the research and metrics regarding that strategy, and personally, I don't agree with it. But, I will say in these games particularly, it likely wouldn't matter.

 

I'm of the opinion their goal is to excite with offense, and even if they give up quick scores, that gives the offense more chances to get on the field. In each of Dre Boyd's first two games he has thrown for more yardage than any Warren Central quarterback ever had in a single game. They have scored more points than in 2016 and 2017 already (and in a few games will exceed them COMBINED), and each of those seasons went 10+ games. They are only 23 points behind their season total for all of last year. They are 37 yards short of their offensive total for all of last season. Of course, the flip side is that they are going to set school records for most points allowed and probably yards allowed as well, but no one will be able to say that they aren't exciting to watch.

That unconventional game strategy may pay off in the long run. Kids who may not want to play for a team on a long losing streak may see this and say, “At least if we lose we are going to have fun doing it.” It might encourage more kids to come out for the team. It also gives them a puncher’s chance in games they might otherwise not be competitive in.
