Who will be in the running for top players and teams next season?

Should be another fun year in the 9th region! According to the state website the top teams returners are below:

 

Ryle: Scherr, Crittendon, Douthit

Conner: Drummonds, Murphy, Taylor

Highlands: Macke, O'Hara, Hinegardner

Holy Cross: Thomas, Simpson, Bezold

Dixie: Lawson, Lockard, Pelfrey

NDA: Bradshaw, Feldman, Aytes

NCC: Heck, Turner, Murphy

My opinion, its Dixie's to lose. They have been knocking on the door the past two years. Had a great run in the regional tournament. Ryle, Conner, and Highlands lose too much to not be looking up at Dixie. Lawson is a top player in the region next year. Pelfrey and Lockard bring everything needed to win alongside her. Then a good young group fills in from there.

 

Ryle, NDA and possibly Highlands are the next three teams trying to knock off Dixie.

Then Crittenden being a junior next year will take even a bigger step forward after having a good year this year. Dixie will be good, but not sure where you came up with a team like Ryle losing to much. Ryle may not only he the best team in the region, they may once again be the best in the state again. So with them being the defending state champs and returning the players they do. The region and most likely the state goes through them again.

Not to mention Austin Johnson, Ryle returns 4 of top 6 for the state champs. Hard not to consider them preseason #1 in the state.

And although they will be highly ranked in the state cause they are champs, in my opinion they lose too much. Between Schwartz and McGregor they lose 30 points and 15 rebounds a game. The four returning can absorb some but not much of that. I watched them play this year and they never once subbed beyond their 6th player. They seem very weak after the next year top 4. With a weak 5th and 6th and 7th man next year and also losing all the production of the graduates they will not be as good as the last two seasons. Dixie beat them at Ryle with the starters for the state champs team. Dixie held their own with them in the regional final.

Dixie loses 20 points and 8 rebounds a game (McGinn & Perry) and will have the same struggles as their bench failed to impress similar to Ryle's.

 

No teams in the 9th [that I saw] were "deep" this year so I don't anticipate any to be in the 19-20 season as talent is gone all over the place.

I would love to see Dixie challenge... but I'm not sure you have your facts straight. Dixie did not beat Ryle during the reg season. And they lost by like 17 in the regionals after getting down like 13-2 to start the game.

 

Scherr will be the best player in the region and it won't be even close. I get the issues with depth. But who's to say they won't get someone transfer in with talent. Between Scherr, Crittenden and Douthit... Ryle has the best big three, probably in the state.

I understand everyones opinion for Ryle. I can also agree that Ryle deserves to be ranked number 1 in the region until beaten. But in my opinion they lose to much and Dixie has alot of depth that can fill in. I think Dixie will come away with the 9th region title in 2020. The game they lost this year to Ryle during the regular season started out bad, but after Dixie adjusted they stayed with them. I love the 9th region and believe whoever wins the region will be a favorite for the state title. Highlands will be good again and Notre Dame might surprise everyone depending on how much their superstar youth develop. The 9th should have 4-5 teams in the top 25 of the state again.

I wasn't clear in my comment. Dixie beat Ryle at Ryle two seasons ago. Both teams had the exact same players as they did this past season as well so it is a fair comparison.

Scary news... Madison Lawson from Dixie may have torn an ACL this week. They're getting a second opinion. Would definitely affect Dixie's start to next season.

Very bad news for a great talent and wonderful kid. My understanding is Madelyn Lawson will have surgery next week. Keep her in your prayers for a quick recovery.
