Good Point Gumbo Daddy. Fairdale went back to back for the first time since the Male 70-71 teams did it. I think going back to back puts you in a different category. There have been some good teams that have not been able to repeat since Fairdale's back to back titles. Also, Two freshman that were on the the 91 state champion team led the 94 Fairdale team to their third title in 5 years: Rayshawn Morris and Tony Wales. Morris was the 94 state tournament MVP.

I would venture to say any state championship season is a "storybook season". I played against Troy and the boys, they were great! I'd like to read that book. Where is it being sold?

Got in trouble at the start of his Sr. year. Carlos ended up Playing for Jesuit College in West Virginia and Graduated with a degree. Is now living in Dayton Ohio.

I go back a long time, but the 1963 Seneca team was the best that I have seen, Mike Redd is the best I have seen that has come out of Kentucky, and the closest thing that I have seen come close to Jordan

What about the '04 champs, Warren Central? They stuck it to the defending champs Mason County (led by Chris Lofton) in the championship game. With 6'6'' Lonnell DeWalt (Division 1 athlete), 6'7'' Matt Maresca (Division 1 Athlete) and Brock Whitney (Another D1 athlete?) I think they at least deserve to be mentioned...

Hopkinsville 1984 State Champ were really good! Four Quarles brothers with Wendell leading the way, Lamont Ware, Maurice Mack (Josh' Dad) and about seven role players! Beat a lot of the so-called favorites that year!

 

 

In 85 Hoptown was a sophomore loaded team.

What GRADE was Mack in 85?

 

I remember them beating a good Ft. Campbell team in the opening round of the district that year on a late shot by Wendell Quarles. They lost by 3 to Christian Co. in the district championship before going on a role.

 

Opening round of the Sweet 16 they drilled Greenup Co. who was said to have that intimidating presence in Mike Scott. I remember they beat was it Paintsville in the semifinals and a then Clay Co. in the finals. Wendell Quarles was the State Tournaments MVP.

 

Hoptown had a good freshmen class that year as well if I remember correctly. Kenny Quarles, Vincient Torran, Elacho Smith, & Donny Langhi who later transferred to Marshall Co. his senior season along with his brother Mike for his Junior and Senior seasons.

 

I remember 2 years the 87 team with that great senior class led by LaMont Ware and all the preseason hype. Then in a scrimmage Ware goes down with the knee injury and in the 1st game of the season Mike Peachers broke his anchle. Peachers returned for the last regular season game when Hoptown thumped Paducah Tilghman but he re-broke his anchle in that game and was done for the year. They went on to lose to UHA in the opening round of the district that year. A year later is when all of UHA's toubles came to light.
