Frances, it sounds like you equate being glib with being intelligent. Bush is absolutely horrible with the question and answer format. That is not uncommon. I think he suffers from following Clinton who was a master at thinking on his feet.

I thought about your post for a couple of minutes and I think you are right on both counts. Following Clinton would have been tough for the overwhelming majority of politicians, Bush included.

 

As for your first statement, I think you are right. As I look back on my life, I can honestly say that I don't remember having met very many people that are witty or glib, that didn't have a pretty high level of intelligence. I don't think that someone that isn't glib or witty is necessarily NOT intelligent, but I do think that a quick wit is indicative (to some degree) of a sharp mind.

It's easy to play dumb, but it's virtually impossible to fake true intelligence (for very long any way.)

President Bush is not as much as a dumb person or President, as much as one that has tunnel vision. He is a person that sees things one way, and no other, and doesn't look for an alternative, when it clear that something doesn't work, or its not the correct decision. He truly believes he is never wrong. Should he be impeached? No. Should the Democrats try to impeach him? They have just turned the corner, and had something positive for the party after this election, and if they need to move ahead and try to continue to build on their momentum, and not destroy it, and if they impeach Bush or attempt to, I believe that it would.

 

I was once involved in a roundtable discussion that tried to define "wisdom" without the benefit of a dictionary. As a group, we batted it around for a short while, and settled on something very close to this:

"Wisdom is the judicious use of knowledge for the common good".
