October 26, 20187 yr The Atlanta Braves have a ton of money coming off the books this year, some of the best young players in the game, and a farm system that is ranked #1 or #2 depending on what rankings you look at. They also have a brand new stadium that is a gold mine. They are also coming off a season of making the playoffs after being predicted to finish 3/4th in the NL East. My questions are these - Will Liberty Media allow Alex Anthopoulos spend the money needed to be a SERIOUS factor this coming year? Who will they look to sign? Who will they look to trade? Is anyone untouchable? Does Liberty Media want to win? They have under $60 million committed for next year. They have been under the MLB average payroll since 2011, and I would say since Liberty Media has owned them more often than not. MLB average looks to be around $145 million next year.
October 28, 20187 yr I believe AA has said payroll will increase next year. I wonder if they will be interested in Harper. They definitely need another good bat in the lineup. They have a solid rotation and a ton of young arms. No clue what moves they will make there. Should be an exciting off season though.

October 28, 20187 yr I'd like to see the Braves get a home run hitter (but where to play him without a trade?), a shut-down closer, a full-time catcher and a veteran starting pitcher (3-4 starter). I think Dansby Swanson is showing improvement at SS but I'm not completely sold on him yet. Folty should be a strong contender for the Cy Young next year.
October 28, 20187 yr Bullpen. They have to pay for bullpen help. They are solid enough on the starting pitching - though you have to hope someone develops into a true ace in the mold of a Kershaw. But their relief pitching remains a disaster. Just too many disasters once they go the pen. I don’t know who they need to get but they have got to bolster that.

Markakis is a free agent so unless they re-sign him they could add a power hitter im his spot.

October 29, 20187 yr I can't say for certain how I feel about Harper. Last year was one of his worst. He still had a career high in RBI, walked an astounding 130 times, and hit 34 HRs. He has yo-yo'd between good years and bad in the last four years. He hit .330 in 2015 (career best), then dropped to .243 (career worst), then back up to .319, then back down to .249. Those 2015 & 2017 seasons make him worth the money. 2016 and 2018 has a much more, shall I say, Upton feeling to it.

To me the BJ Upton signing was one of the worst things to happen to the Braves in the last 15 years. They so seldom open up the pocketbook and they did on that one. I don’t think they’ve had a more collosal bust.
