You are partially correct. All Catholic high schools have districts. However, unlike the Boone County school system or the Ft Thomas school system or the Ft Mitchell school system, you do not have to live in the district to attend the school. You DO have to pay more though if you are out of district. In addition, you do not have to join a parish either. If you are not Catholic, you pay a bit more as well .

 

Lastly, from what I understand , the "district" will be defined by the diocese. IF that's the case, all of NKY will be "in district" for every Catholic high school. Heck, Maysville would be "in district."

 

I was told I could join a Parish say in Ft Thomas(NCC school dist) and live in Florence and that would also offset my cost. I do agree about your other understanding of costs.

 

Does everyone understand what this new proposal will do to the elementary private schools when it comes to eligibility? Think about this, the kids at Blessed Sacrament must decide whether they will go to BHS or CCH at the end of the 6th grade yr. If they stay at BSS for the 7th grade and decide to go to BHS, they would be declared ineligible for a yr, if I understand all this. They would be considered a transfer.

 

If anyone understands this proposal please chime in. This would affect St Pius, St Agnus, all the Catholic Elementary schools, so parents, if your kids play sports you better review this proposal and know what is what if it gets approved.

Nell doesn't have to recruit but isn't it considered recruiting if anyone associated with that school ask you to consider sending your child to that school. Just asking... Sounds as if your daughter has her priorities strait and will make a great coach if she chooses to go into the profession. Good luck on the upcoming season.

 

 

Yes, it can be but a school official would have had to ask the parent to try and influence the athlete to transfer and we all KNOW coaches would NEVER do that!!!!

This means absolutely nothing ,but imo if a kid plays at the varsity level at any time and then goes to another high school , she should be considered a transfer. Which I am sure takes in a lot of girls in the NKY area.

I am an absolute BB fan and love watching the girls play. For the most part there is parity in girls HS basketball, each team has one or two players that can make a difference and the balance of the team is the luck of the draw, but watching BC play against anyone else or NDA against anyone else just isn't that much fun. You know the outcome prior to the game, you just don't know by how much they are going to win by. With that being said, both of the coaches do try to hold the scores down, but the other teams girls know going in they are no match and barely show up for the game. Sure they give it a try but when you are down 10-2 or something similiar before you break a sweat it is hard to get up for the balance of the game.

well since your daughter is blessed with her hard work ethic and great grades and college letters I am sure she doesn't have to worry about being number 18. There are girls though that love to be part of the team that don't have that talent and are happy to be 18 and have a chance to play with their friends. 8 through 18 are underclassmen and mostly JV that get the benifit of playing for Coach Fookes and learning the game of basketball so that when they are older have a chance to play varsity at Boone. Every team has these players that are vital for practice and some do mature or grow and turn into very good varsity players so they are very thankful they are kept.

 

What girls on any other team go in not trying to beat Boone. That is rediculous, everybody wants to beat Boone so they do more than just show up they go in with the attitude this is our chance to show what we have and we get their 110%. Last year I think we were picked 3rd in the 9th region and a question mark to how the young players would be able to step in. I don't know what you were watching last year but there were no blow outs that I saw and most games came down to the wire.

 

Lastly I have said numerous times if the transfer is done legally I have no problem if they went to Ryle or anywhere else for that matter. At Boone we play with what we have and don't worry about the rest.

The Kenton Co schools should be glad that Boone Co doesn't have open enrollment. I have always said how great it would be for NKY to try to designate each school for a certain sport, which I know would never happen. Let's say for instance, Ryle(baseball, softball, football), Boone(bball, volleyball) and Conner(track, wrestling) get the picture. Now if you participate in one of these sports well then go to that school. They would be loaded. I am dreaming, I know but it would be fun.

 

BC/NDA are not guaranteed to win anything. Everyone should know we are dealing w/teenagers here, very unpredictable. On any given night anyone can beat anyone. Yes, Boone is loaded w/talent but last yr so was NDA, look what happened.

 

Let our children go to school where they are happy and where they will be most productive. Do everything by the book and there shouldn't be any problems w/eligibility.

 

Any player, no matter what sport, that goes into a game thinking they are going to lose should not even play. Find something else to do. That is a terrible outlook in sports and life.

They started last season with 17 on their JV/V roster.

Just for the record, you must be thinking about someone else, I have not mentioned that my daughter has any letters from any coaches, etc....Does she have a great work ethic and good grade, yes.

 

All girls going into sports, for the most part are competitive. Do all possess athletic ability, no. Are there teams out there with limit potential against the BC or ND, yes. Are there more of these teams than those that do match up, yes. Do those teams know it, YES. My point was that teams try to match up with the super teams but it does not take very long into the game to take the wind out of their sails. For the very same reason it was mentioned that on any given day anyone can beat anyone, you can state ,if an only if the talent level is there to start with. This is not college where all of the teams have the same opportunity to recruit a star player, this is HS. Last year ND was 14-3 against Northern Ky teams. They lost to Holy Cross and BC and NCC. All three teams ranked high through out the year and each game would be a toss up going in. The other games, the average margin of victory was 24.5 pts. BC on the other hand was 16-2 against Northern Ky teams. They lost to ND and St. Henry. Their ave. margin of victory was 11.5 pts. Do we see a pattern here.

 

Maybe this will stir the pot, what do all of the above teams have in common, excluding BC. (Hint: Holy Cross, Notre Dame, St. Henry, Newport Catholic) It seems to me that all of your daughters have played AAU at one point or another. You must know then that at most every tournament, the talent level is in 3 stages. The why did that team come, the they were competitive through the first half and ran out of steam group, and the group that will give you a run for the money. Unfortunately that is the same type of grouping we have in high school basketball. For the most part the public school system teams all start out in group 2. What makes a difference is when that star player comes along and makes the other girls better. Then transfers. If that happens a couple of times and they go to the same team, then you have a team that is heads and shoulders above the rest and some in the why did that team come catagory.

3PT: Besides Kenton open enrollment SK has a new transfer also. Both NDA incoming freshmen that I was referring to played varsity (Villa, Conner) during their 8th grade years prior to enrolling at NDA. There is no doubt they "transferred" mostly for academic purposes because they are both intelligent young ladies; however, I can promise you that was not the sole purpose.

 

CoachK: Nell cut only 1 player after tryouts last year because she got suspended for behavior issues. This year she cut only 1 again after tryouts. A very good friend of yours would love to have transferred as well, but was not in position to do so at the time.

 

BballDad: I believe 3pt assumed your daughter had college letters based on a post somewhere where you stated "I know my daughter will play at the next level". I don't think he attempted to misquote you. I know who you daughter is now, I think, and I agree she will play at the next level if it is something she chooses to do.

 

This is my final post on this matter since this subject matter has been completely exhausted, again. Same arguments for it and the same arguments against it. It will be this same next year as well after all of the "transfers" get settled in to their new schools

Without mentioning the name of the student athlete, can you say what school the SK transfer is from? They have an excellent foundation and coaching staff for a top notch program built there and I am surprised more kids haven't gravitated that way to play for Coach Stowers.

InDaZone, did Coach Fookes keep 17-18 girls this yr.? I am oblivious to who you think wanted to transfer to BC that is my very good friend. Maybe we will find out next yr. or maybe it was small talk. I don't have alot of " very good friends".

 

Ranger, I believe SK will be very good this yr. The X'treme girls and the twins all improved over the summer. I think they will make state and may win a couple of games down there.

CoachK: 17 girls were at tryouts and 16 are on the team. Last year 18 was at tryouts and 17 were on the team. As stated above only one was cut each of the past two years. I was told the player that was cut this year was discouraged because she was having a difficult time keeping up. Supposedly she asked "is it always like this" and was told "it will get much tougher" and she made the decision to walk away. But this is only hearsay.

 

You seem to know me so you should know that I am one for little small talk. I did not say "transfer to Boone" so be careful because this is how things tend to get started. I said "wanted to transfer, but was not in position to do so at the time".

 

Ranger: I agree SK will be strong again and will continue to be competitive as long as Stowers is at the helm teaching those girls the game. They became much better players under his leadership & guidance. Their hardwork/discipline has pushed them to a level they may have never reached without him. The players that used to go to other schools during Kenton open enrollment have, or will, gravitate to SK as long as Stowers is there.
