Shane Popham has never caught a touchdown pass or rushed for 100 yards in a game, yet he's become a vital part of the Covington Catholic football team's offense this season.

 

The senior place-kicker has scored a team-high 73 points for the Colonels with his strong right leg by converting 13 of 15 field goal attempts and 34 extra-point attempts, and by the time the season ends his name could be in the Kentucky high school record book.

Pop should be hearing from more and more big schools pretty soon I'd imagine. Far and away the best of the 3 consecutive (potentially) D1 kickers at CCH.

This kid sounds like the real deal, I tip my hat to him, though I still hope to meet him during the playoffs .. but he definitely sounds like D-1 material :thumb:

Thanks to everyone and their good words. To date Shane has received no solid offers. Only Holy Cross of Boston has been true since the Boone County game, they want us to do a visit sometime in December. again thanks

Shane is tied with 2 others for most FGs in the country and he is tied with one other kicker for longest FG in the country this season.

Where did the prior 2 kickers end up? What a run of kicker's they've had there. He can certainly kick for anyone.

05 Tony Roch is a walk-on at UK but will not start with the team until January

Great article and best of all.. he has a 3.86 GPA... you cant take that away from him. Keep kicking Popham and hope to see you someday on Sundays...hopefully not kicking against our beloved Bengals.
