Tilghman scores all 27 points in the first quarter and trails 28-27.

Then can not find the end zone after that. The Mayfield passing game reportedly exposed the Tilghman DBs. That will need to be addressed, but good game for these old rivals.

Stinson was 19-27 for 324 yds. 2 tds

Matthews rushed 32 times for 256 yds

Mayfield offense looked the best of any game so far. I thought defense played well with the exception of 3 big plays in 1st qtr

The double tight end set is a nice new wrinkle for Mayfield. Hard to defend.

That offensive show by Mayfield was one of the best I've seen in a long time.

 

The problem I had with the Tilghman defense is that they knew what was coming. Basically the same game plan Mayfield used against us last year. Couldn't stop it then or last night.

 

The only good that comes from it is that it's already prompted some changes for the Tornado.

 

Mayfield played great, I give them the credit they deserve. Add that to the combination Tilghman didn't play very well and you get a score like this.

 

Tilghman has a lot of new things they are working on and I believe will be better in the end because of this.

 

If Mayfield can sustain the intensity they had last night, I don't see too many people in any class beating them.

This PT team will make some noise. The thing I liked the most about them was they were very disciplined something they have not been in the past several years. Very few penalties. No stupid personal fouls or unsportsmanlike penalties. Looks like Duncan and Smith have got this team turned and headed in the right direction for a change. Good luck the rest of the way.

Defensively, thought we played great after that 1 st qtr. The long run by 6, super fast kid. It happens. Not sure what happened on the other long run with Askew. Couldn't believe he escaped that. The long pass play we had good coverage. Perfectly thrown ball by PT Qb. I like this team and see another deep playoff run.

You guys will definitely be there in the end. DeSales, CAL and Danville are very good teams, but I believe Mayfield can stand toe to toe with any of them.

 

I'm very interested in the Mayfield/Corbin game now just to get an idea of what Tilghman needs to do to match up with one of the top 3A teams.

Matthews is the same on the hardwood

I’m not knocking PT at all they r solid and will get better every game if they continue with that intensity and discipline. But that was as close as that game could’ve been. The reason PT couldn’t stop Mayfield is because they were clicking on all cylinders. Line blocked awesome, backs ran hard and Stinson was dead on and he has a gun of an arm. I think he finished with 6 incompletions and 4 of those were in the receivers hands and dropped. Good luck to PT the rest of the way.

Was this the same qb some Mayfield fans were not happy with?

Because if so we will take him.

Coach Joe had the Cards ready and quite simply took what the PT defense gave him for the first 3 quarters by hitting 8 yard passes while the cbs were playing 12 yards deep. Add to that Stinson was hitting his targets about 2 seconds after the ball was snapped which prevented our D from from getting any pressure on him.

Beyond the 3rd quarter Mayfield's time of posession really wore PT down, which in turn effected their ability on both sides of the ball.

PT has shown some promise, but still has some issues to work on, they have to improve the pass game in order to balance the offense, and the defensive secondary will have to tighten up and figure out what happened to them in this game.
