South Warren makes the short trip down 31-W to take on the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats. South Warren beat down a solid Hopkinsville team and then blew out a Warren Central team still looking for their first win since 2015. F-S has ran the ball to perfection in blowout wins at Elizabethtown and Monroe County. While only 5 games have been played, this game has the makings of becoming south central Kentucky's newest and best rivalry.

I’m pretty sure FS can’t beat the SW defense with just their running game even though the running game has been impressive thus far. Is the FS passing game ready to step up and make a statement? I think so. I’ll take FS 24-21.

I don't think so, FS was 0-1 and a pick against E-town throwing the ball. I walked away from that game thinking that if FS gets down early and has to throw the ball this year, they are in trouble.

You would have to think Coach Preston at FS spent this week throwing in some wrinkles in the passing game to keep the SW defense honest and not putting 8-9 guys in the box every play.

My biggest concern in this game is the FS pass defense. They’ve only given up about 200 yards total passing but have faced inexperienced quarterbacks so far. They have five picks already so I’m cautiously optimistic, but SW’s Spurrier is probably the best QB they will face this year. If FS can keep SW to around 20 points, they have a good shot.

 

FS offense hasn’t had to throw it much yet but I think they’ll have to this week. They only threw it 7 times in the state title game last year, but those passes made the Johnson Central defense have to honor the pass and it opened up the running game. I can’t see FS winning this game if they are one-dimensional and I know SW is usually pretty balanced between runs and passes.

 

The home team has won every game in the series so far. I don’t think that makes a lot of difference in this game because the schools are so close that the fan bases will turn out at either stadium.

 

If I wasn’t emotionally invested in this game I would probably pick SW to win by a touchdown or two. But I’ll give the Wildcats the benefit of the doubt. FS 21-17.

South Warren wins, running clock

This is a very intriguing game.

 

I think South loads the box from the time they step off the bus. If Franklin can not move the chains using the pass at least some, they will be in trouble. The good thing for Franklin is Coach Preston is not a new Coach and has played South before and already knows this.

 

I look for Franklin to give the pass a chance on Friday night because honestly if the Wildcats don't win - who cares, as they are still on track to march deep into the 4A playoffs. Use easy passes/screens/shuttle passes, etc, but you will need to mix in a deep pass here or there also as South will hedge those after a while.

 

The Big Thing for Franklin to me is don't turn the ball over. South might be the best team in the state right now at turning you over and turning it into 6 quick. And Clayton Bush might be the best at this right now. If you have to punt, so be it, but don't turn it over.

 

Concerning the South offense vs the Franklin D, it sounds like Franklins pass D is more vunerable than the run D. So the Safetys need to make job 1 not giving up the home run ball. Harrison is a good RB, but don't think he will beat you by his self.

I don’t think FS can win this game. SW will control the run and Spurrier will pass them silly. FS has been beat several times this year in the secondary, but the Receivers would be under or over thrown. That won’t be the case this week. FS QB will have to grow up this week and I still don’t think that will be enough. Sw42-FS7

I don’t it will be that big of a spread either. I was hoping it would get the Franklin boys that read the forum fired up to beat SW. FS can win, but it will take a flawless game to get it done. SW is a great TEAM(Offense and defense) FS is a good running OFFENSE right now with a decent defense that will improve through the year. Coach Preston will see to that.
