This was the final of the Varsity portion 3 quarters. I am not sure if they jv or frosh scored in the 4th quarter running clock.

Rowan County either has improved from last year or it could be a long season for the my Devils.

Russell might have had negative rushing yards tonight. There was no running room to be had when Russell had the ball, and the QBs had very little time to set their feet before being chased out of the pocket. It all starts in the trenches. They've got another scrimmage and a bye week to make significant strides in that area, or this could be another sluggish start to a season, offensively.

 

Rowan looked much improved over what I've seen from them in recent years. Very good O-line play from them tonight. They consistently had success running the ball.

 

Russell basically had two big plays - A beautifully thrown ball from Wilburn to Galloway for a long TD pass, and Galloway's pick-six. The latter was just a great individual play by Reed. Outside of that, they had nothing else going on tonight.

 

There's a ton of work to be done between now and Greenup County.

From what I remember, they ran some wing-t, some double wing, and some I-formation. They only went shotgun when it was a long distance, obvious passing situation.

Yes, Conley played. Russell pretty much had its full compliment of players last night. As is typical for Russell in a scrimmage under TJ, they subbed a lot of players in and out of the game on every series, so no one player got the bulk of the touches.

 

This was one of the uglier scrimmage performances I've ever seen.

The crowd was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Smaller than last season and I am sure the smallest I have seen, in the times I have taken the grid in.

The weather definitely played a hand, I'm sure. Plus, Rowan and Lewis were making relatively long drives for a scrimmage.
