Collar7 Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 Does anyone own a big green egg grill/smoker? Recommend it?
NEERFAN Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Here is an old thread. http://bluegrasspreps.com/bgp-break-room/anyone-use-kamado-305863.html
JDEaston Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 They're great cookers. However if you're going to spend that kind of coin on a ceramic Kamado I'd take a strong look at the Kamado Joe brand. You can catch great deals on those at Costco roadshows and they come with a ton of accessories.
Jim Schue Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 My brother got one for my dad about 5-6 years ago, and he's used it maybe a dozen times. Brother is mad, but he won't totally admit it, that he has had to retrieve it and take it home with him. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I knew it would eventually be back with him. Nor did I have the heart to repeat the "I told you so" from back when he initially bought the darned thing. Dad likes his Weber kettle grill and doesn't want to change.
mexitucky Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I have one. I personally love it. Makes grilling more interesting. I have smoked two Thanksgiving turkeys, a million hamburgers, done pizza, and cedar plank Salmon. That said, other Komodo style grills are just as good as way better value. I didn’t research, just jumped right in.
rjs4470 Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 The Big Green Egg has been on my radar for a while. My Traeger died though, and I need to replace it first. I'm thinking more along the lines of getting one of the smaller Eggs, maybe the medium sized one, as it can use any accessory made for the full sized Eggs, and is more than big enough for my needs. My youngest is heading to college, and it will be just me and my wife and occasionally a few friends, so I don't need to be able to cook 20 burgers or 6 chickens at a time.

Even the cheap metal cookers like the Chargriller Akorn and the Charbroil Cammander are great, basically due to the fact that they are insulated just like their much more expensive ceramic siblings.
