True blue (and gold) Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 What does Walton-Verona need to do to be successful in the 2018/2019 season? Please be constructive.
TigerTigerWoodsYall Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 They need to play a better season schedule to prepare them for the Oldhams, Collins, Etc in the 8th. Playing Single A schools won’t prepare them. They will be top 3 in region , but need some tough regular season games.
4 Quarters Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 First and foremost they will need to keep Miles healthy and some other holes will have to be filled.

Playing Single A schools won’t prepare them. They will be top 3 in region , but need some tough regular season games. How could they possibly play a tougher schedule than last season?

Mack The Knife Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Aside from St. Henry, every A team on their schedule, they have to play.
JohnsonQ Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I believe there are equal number of bad and great teams. WVs problem wasn't their schedule. No one else in the region lost a player the caliber of Miles. They still had a great year. Their weakness this year is at point guard. Not saying their players are terrible, they just don't have an experienced point guard. Jones is a shooter. Grubbs will probably get the role. He is a good "a" point guard, not tested at the elite level.
Hands & Feet Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Agree about Miles. If he doesn't get hurt Walton would have been playing at Rupp. As far as Grubbs, you are mistaken. He has been playing high level AAU for years (excelling against very good competition) & would have started point last year if Stanley,, one of the best point guards in the state hadn't transferred. Instead, Grubbs started at the 2 and often was a primary ball-handler against pressure. He is not a high scoring guard, but is an excellent defender, distributor, and rebounder. If he can get 6 to 10 points a game, minimize turnovers, and provide solid defense, rebounding and the intangibles, such as his high motor and excellent leadership. If so, they will be fine. Also, Jones, Bonne, & Schrader can provide solid minutes at the one as well. Look for Jones and Bonne to have big years at 1, 2, & 3. Keep in mind that these guys have been playing together between 6 to 11 years against top competition. There is a comfort level and familiarity that exists as a result. While they may have been more talented last year, if they can stay healthy, they very well may be more successful this year since there will be very little adjustment to their roles.
JohnsonQ Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Experience to me is being the starting point guard for his team. Stanley was the starter, therefore, he does not have varsity starting experience at the point. Your description of him is very accurate. He is a nice player.
TigerTigerWoodsYall Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 The 8th is Oldhams’, Collins, or Simon Kenton. Every year we hear about some smaller counties getting it done but rarely happens, Owen a few years back is a great example, and I don’t think Miles is on Carson Williams level. Those teams like Oldham, south, Collins, there just more experienced, and I will be very surprised if it is not one of them again this year.
King of the Bluegrass Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Great to have you back in the 2018 Chad Gardner Law King of the Bluegrass.
Big Crazy Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 I'm excited to watch WV this year. They lost some key players but so did most teams across the 8th & 9th. With that being said, I think they will do very well. Anxious to get to see Miles back in the lineup. He is a key factor for sure.
4 Quarters Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 I'm hearing WV has a really nice freshman. name might be Ferguson, not sure on the name.

I get the Oldham and Shelby County part of your post, but really, where does SK fit. They have won the same number of regionals as the small schools, ZERO in the 8th.
