Looks like Schmitz has resigned and Juan Mcday will be the interim coach. Juan is a great guy and has been a big part of the Newport sports community at the middle school for quite a few years.

It sounds like Matt Schmitz is still working on getting himself in order.

 

After his arrest for public intoxication over the weekend in Dayton, KY, he is out completely at Newport High School - both as a coach, and as an educator.

 

The job is not open, though. Juan McDay, who has been the Newport Middle School football coach, has been brought in as interim coach.
