Top catchers in Northern Kentucky

Featured Replies

I've seen alot of baseball around the area. Who are the top catchers in the Northern Kentucky area. Ive seen a few come and and play in the Louisville Invitational a few weeks ago and have gotten up north to catch a few key matchups.

SK

Highlands

Cov Cath

Beechwood.

So those that are familiar with the catching talent up there. Who are the top catchers.

Ive seen those 4 catchers from the 4 schools mentioned. I think ive seen the kid from Sk more than the others. Against N.oldham, highlands , St. X. and Bullitt . Tall lanky kid, good frame coverage around the plate. Great mechanics on blocking Showed a strong arm against ST.X . Based on Max preps hes hovering around .400. I liked the kid from Highlands as well. Solid mechanics. Cov cath has a lineage of good catchers. But none like the maile kid from a few years ago.

Here's the list of catchers on the Luke Maile level:

No studs. A bunch of solid catchers.

I agree!

Trent Parker for Brossart is a solid defensive catcher who does great job of framing pitches and managing the game. Arm strength has increased over the last 2 years. A great team leader!

Noah Brewer for Campbell County can flat out rake. Schlarman for Cooper has a cannon and McCabe for Ryle is pretty solid all around.

St Henry has a guy with a cannon as well.

Austin Dunn (Jr) has been primary catcher for Cooper this year. His strength is defense with solid blocking behind the plate and fast accurate throws to 2nd, etc.

I have only seen a few games this year but he would have to be considered in the top group of catchers for NKy.

Justin Schlarman caught both games vs Highlands this year and I’m pretty sure he was the starting catcher last year. If my memory serves me right, Cooper subbed in a catcher late in the game at Dixie.

Burch from Beechwood is a very solid catcher with a strong arm.

You guys need to get out of your bubble and see real catching talent in NKY.

The kid from St. Henry, Michael Schaefer, epitomizes the position. Here is a quick offensive stat line:

BA .456, SLG .611, HR 2, OBP .523, SB 14

On the other side of the ball:

Pop-time ~1.9, SB-ATT 32-47, CS 15, PIK 5

Lead-off hitter from the left, has the arm talent of a D1 catcher, and 3-yr varsity starter.

Only comparison I've seen behind the plate is Ben Metzinger from Trinity.

With stats like that has he had any offers especially the 1.9 pop time thats better than most MLB catchers. Not saying its not believable but pop times are subjective to the person recording it. I've some very good catchers in my travels across the country and on ave... pop times are right around the 2.0 - 2.1 range and ive seen some very good catchers in fla , tx and ca. That are considered early picks in the june draft and D-1 signees and none with a 1.9 pop. Best was a kid from California with a 1.98. But as i said pop times are subject to whoever is recording them.

That was the reason for the prefixed (~) time. It's an unofficial time but the kid is legit. You can see him play in 9th region tournament starting Monday. He won't disappoint.

The talent in Fl, Tx and Ca just isn't fair. They are in a class of their own for sure.

Understand there is a difference between in-game pop times and showcase/workout pop times. Anything in game 2.0-2.1 is flat getting it done.

Any NKY catchers getting interest from the next level?
