Rule Clarification

Featured Replies

What are the rules for Kentucky high school varsity players participating in AAU/Prep/Camp or other non-sanctioned events during the fall school months leading up to high school season. I was led to believe KY high school varsity players were not allowed to participate.

Any insight?

Bylaw 8. Contestant On Other Teams, Post Season

and All-Star Games

Any student who after enrolling in grade nine (9) has been

a contestant in football or basketball at any level (grades

9-12) and has eligibility remaining in that sport may not

participate on any non-school sponsored team or in any allstar

game in that sport or any variation of that sport from

the first day of school through the last scheduled contest

played in that sport (including KHSAA sanctioned postseason)

by that school unless it has been sanctioned by the

Board of Control. Following the team’s last scheduled game

(including post season), there are no restrictions on play in

that specific sport for the student-athletes.

(Case situations related to this bylaw appear on pages 19

through 43 of this Handbook)

Okay, so does the Tennessee Prep Hoops Showcase in Nashville, TN last weekend fall under the "non-school sponsored team or in any allstar

game in that sport or any variation" category?

No Kentucky player would be eligible to play in that

uh-oh

Maybe player in question is moving?

According to Hoopscooponline, there were two players at the event the from Kentucky this past weekend.

Wasn't this classified as a Showcase camp and not All-Star camp, in their designation?

This is not the place to report KHSAA violations. Feel free to contact http://www.khsaa.org to report such violations, but do not discuss violations here.

What's the difference in what was posted above and Proposal 5?

According to Hoopscooponline, there were two players at the event the from Kentucky this past weekend.

I had a player that was scheduled to participate in one of these 4 or 5 years ago. I happened to go to the KABC rules clinic the night before and Mr. Boucher spoke on these things and said they were not allowed to participate. I went to him after the meeting to confirm and immediately left and called my player and her parents over and over till I got a hold of one of them. Let them know NOT to go. A handful of girls bball players around the state went to it and were ruled ineligible for the first game or two. THis one was in Columbus Ohio.

Those players need to go to the AD of their school and let them know what they did. There might be reprecussions but better to have to sit out a game than have to forfeit the game or it come about as you move into postseason.
