From the Reds Futures High School Showcase at GABP.

The Colonels score six runs in the 4th, on their way to a 6 inning win.

Jack Maile: Pitching - Two hit CG shutout with 2 K and 2 W; now 2-1 for the season with a 1.40 ERA.

Hitting - 3/3 with 2 RBI.

Casey McGinness: 2/3, 3 RBI, 1 3B. YTD - .387 BA and 1.104 OPS.

Jack Coldiron: 2/3, 2 R. YTD - .537 BA and 1.489 OPS.

Michael Schaefer: 3 W, 2 R, 1 RBI.

Only two extra base hits for the Colonels, but 10 walks were given up by Highlands.

Highlands is now 11-5 for the season, while Cov Cath improves to 10-4.

A short video highlight clip -

Cov Cath 11, Highlands

Following along on Twitter it sounded like Rom gave up 1 run in the 1st and none in the 2nd and 3rd and then was replaced by Dreeves. Not sure if Dreeves gave up all of the runs but the Colonels put 5 or 6 up in the 4th. Maile went the distance for the Colonels.

Two different approaches by the two coaching staffs.

Alright, firstly I'll freely admit that I don't follow high school baseball very closely, and what I do know I catch as tidbits here at random...

...such as Highlands is loaded with future D1 players, CovCath is always talented, but can't get over the hump, and some believe it's time for Krumps to go, and this highly anticipated game at GABP had been scheduled months ago.

So the final score of this big game was CovCath 11- Zip

I don't understand...what am I missing? :idunno:

Nothing. CCH went 3-0 against the HHS last year by a total score of something like 30-5. They have The Birds number.

It's baseball which is unlike any other sport. In talking to a dad at the game the 2nd Highlands pitcher really struggled so it went from 1-0 to 7-0 or something like that. Ball game. Might have ended up 1-0 or something close to that had the Birds not been throwing multiple pitchers.

Some days a pitcher is dealing and it sounds like Maile was doing just that.

Early in the game, HHS hit the ball very hard. A few “at em” balls and a nice catch by the centerfielder.

Rom settled down and was cruising when he left the game.

Nice win for CCH, but I wouldn’t take much away from this game, other than CCH is capable of handling high level pitching - at least for an inning or two. In the post season, that may be all you need.

Very thin margin between these two teams.

Baioni understands that the regular season is nothing more than preparing your team to win in the post season. That's why he plays a brutal schedule and plays a ton of players, which he did in this game. Other coaches play to win regular season games. Baioni could care less about that.

C'mon that's a bunch of baioni and you know it.

Just messing with you... I couldn't resist. :lol2:

In all seriousness, you're probably right.

No question. If Rom stays in that game, it’s a 1 or 2 run game into the late innings, most likely.
