South Oldham (19-11) runner up of the 29th district faces Oldham County (28-5), the champions of the 29th in the finals of the boys' 8th region tournament tonight at 7 pm ET.

 

South will be seeking their fourth region title in six seasons.

 

The two teams split two games this year, as South won the regular season game and Oldham won the matchup in the district finals.

I'll take South by 3. There's just something magical about Coach Simpson and the Dragons at the ROY.

South is 12-1 over the last 6 years in the Regional Tourney (Didn't make it in 2015). Also, all three of their regional championships came with them being the runner-up in the district.

 

I'll take the Dragons in this one as well.

 

Whoever wins will have a good chance to advance to the second round at Rupp next week.

Not sure if Simpson has anything to do with it but South seems to shoot well over there.

I've broadcast every 8th region tournament in its entirety (except for last Thursday's two games, which were the only two I have missed in that time span - I had to miss due to being out of town) since 1998, regardless of who plays in each game. I would say that most, if not all, of the coaches in the 8th are good friends. I've made so many friends throughout the region since my first 8th region broadcast in 1979. I truly enjoy calling each and every game, regardless, and I relish each opportunity.

 

That said, Tommy, you're right - this one will be special because I do know so many of the parents, kids, coaches, etc. I've coached some of these kids myself.

 

Pegasus will follow whichever team goes to the Sweet 16.
