Independent Schools VS County Schools

Featured Replies

With some debate on Inds VS Cty Schools which do you think is better:

If you think Inds should consolidate with Cty Schools please say why

Educationally?

Sports Wise?

My Pick:

School: Augusta

Type: Ind

Education: Very good, test scores great

Sports: Fair selection, great teams, good athletes, great crowd of supporters

Consolidation: NO, because then it would be with Bracken County and I do not like the idea of that. Why do that when we have an excellent time existing here? IMO it WILL Never HAPPEN!!!!!!!!:jump:

Great teams?

Ok what are the chances of an Ind taking over with a Cty school?

Yes IMO Augusta has some good teams.

Look at our county - 6 independents and 1 county. Wide variety of athletic and academic reasons not to consolidate. Maybe the ind should consolidate with one another.

But then you would not have as much fun playin a more variety of teams ;)

What's been your best team the last 30 years? What was their record and how far did they get in the tournaments?

I don't think that Augusta High School athletics should be on trial here.

The man is entitled to his opinion. Good is in the eye of the beholder.

Good for Augusta might not be so good for Mason County etc..

I think that there is a lot to be said about small independents such as Augusta and Silver Grove and if athletes find themselves "trapped" in those school districts they usually find their way out. Derrick Smith lives in the shadow of Silver Grove High School but found his way to Highlands. Adam Reed was an Augusta boy who gravitated to Bracken County. I wonder if Brian Kirk wishes that he had moved on to Mason County. After winning the 10th Region Freshman Tournament, he never played in a real 10th Region Tournament but was a HUGE local hero and the school's leading scorer at Augusta.

I tend to lump the larger independents together with the county schools.

i.e. Highlands and Campbell County. To me they are apples and apples.

Some kids thrive in a small independent setting and get to be big fish in small ponds. Many would get lost in a big school. To each his own.

I wasn't the one who brought Augusta High School into the debate.

Anyone who makes questionable statements should be able to back it up with facts. I'm still waiting on a few facts to back up the "great teams" statement.

I had a great friend who coached at Augusta and was Kirk's freshman coach. If I'm not mistaken, the aforementioned Kirk, Reed, and Smith all wound up playing college athletics, no matter the school size.

That is a fact

What was the best team during those years?

It is an Opinion, simple as that. I could have put down Bracken and said super teams.

Let me see here:

AHS Panthers 2001 10th Freshman Champs, 1926, 1928, 1936, 1964, 1977, 1982 District Champs, 1926, 11th Champs, I will have to get back on the Runner's Up District and Regionals because I get my dates confused.

I have to admit for a small school the athletics ARE excellent.

No district titles since 1982?

Boys wise? Nope not since 82 though we have had Runner's up since then.

1966 - 28-4 record and ranked 15th in the state..
