Lafayette 25 Henry Clay 13

Featured Replies

I stand to be corrected, but I think if Scott County wins against Lafayette on Friday, they would open the playoffs hosting Lafayette. I think that would make them the #2 seed. If Scott County loses, I think they would play at Henry Clay.

I am not totally sure about the three way tie breaking criteria. Anyone know the absolute answer?

So in other words it doesn't matter if Scott Co. Wins or loses Friday night they still come up 3rd seed in the play off. (Figures):irked:

The playoff system has always worked like this. First seeding is done by the teams with better record. Henry Clay, Lafayette, and Scott County will have the same record (assuming Scott County wins next Friday). Since step one can not decide the champion they go to Head to Head competition. If you go by that you will have Henry Clay beating Scott County, Lafayette beating Henry Clay and Scott County beating Lafayette. It's a three way circle so to speak. Then they to the three way tie breaker.

Three way tie breaker is done off of your wins by your non district victories. I'm pretty sure Henry Clay is ahead of both, Lafayette second and Scott County third even though I haven't fully added them up yet.

To answer your question I don't think there is much of a chance for Scott County to get a home playoff game now.

It's actually not just your non-district games, just games not involving tied teams. It's just that typically district games don't matter, considering the other teams usually have victories over those same teams. A quick look at how it stands:

Henry Clay (Currently: 26 tiebreaker points)

Bell County (7 wins, one game remaining)

Christian County (7 wins, one game remaining)

Pikeville (6 wins, one game remaining)

Woodford County (6 wins, one game remaining)

Tates Creek (6 wins, one game remaining)

Boyle County (4 wins, one game remaining)

Bryan Station (2 wins, one game remaining)

Dunbar (0 wins, one game remaining)

Henry Clay will get at least one more point due to Woodford/Tates Creek playing

Lafayette (Currently: 24 tiebreaker points)

Mason County (7 wins, one game remaining)

Woodford County (6 wins, one game remaining)

Tates Creek (6 wins, one game remaining)

Fulton County (5 wins, one game remaining)

Boyle County (4 wins, one game remaining)

Bryan Station (2 wins, one game remaining)

Jeffersontown (2 wins, one game remaining)

Dunbar (0 wins, one game remaining)

Lafayette will get at least one more point due to Woodford/Tates Creek playing

Scott County (Currently: 22 tiebreaker points)

Woodford County (6 wins, one game remaining)

Tates Creek (6 wins, one game remaining)

Boone County (5 wins, one game remaining)

Wayne County (5 wins, one game remaining)

Woodward, OH (3 wins through 8 games, two games remaining)

Bryan Station (2 wins, one game remaining)

Dunbar (0 wins, one game remaining)

Lafayette will get at least one more point due to Woodford/Tates Creek playing

Analysis

Scott County cannot get the #1 seed no matter what. They will have a maximum of 25 tiebreaker points in a three-way tie, and Henry Clay already has 26 tiebreaker points. They've got little shot at getting third place either. If a tie is not broken by taking the wins from the top four teams, you add a team, then another, etc. until there are none left. Going to the fifth team from Lafayette and Scott County, Scott has Woodward which would need to win both games to get to five wins. Meanwhile Lafayette would add Boyle County, a solid lock pretty much for five wins. Beyond that, Lafayette has the edge because they beat J-Town, and both of the other teams Scott County has beaten. So basically, every team of Scott County's has to win, and every team of Lafayette's has to lose. Scott County has pretty much nothing to play for this next week other than who they'd rather face.

Between Lafayette and Henry Clay, Henry Clay already has a two point edge, and has more upside. It could go either way, but you'd probably think Henry Clay is going to win the tiebreak.

Long and short of it is, I think if it goes to a three-way, it's going to be:

1) Henry Clay

2) Lafayette

3) Scott County

4) Tates Creek/Woodford winner

But IMO, Lafayette is going to render it irrelevant by winning on Friday.

"DragonFire"......thanks for the excellent information. I searched the KHSAA site hoping to find the answer, to no avail.

BGPreps is a great source of getting questions like this one answered. Thank you for being "in the know".

That was Henry Clay's first lost at the new field
