February 9, 20188 yr A win for the Cards (finally)! They played a lot better defensively. Hopefully they keep up the momentum in Pitt, and can bring it against NC & Duke. Prob not the best day for GA Tech’s Josh Pastner.
February 9, 20188 yr One they had to have. Same goes for Sunday at Pitt. I imagine they’re going to experiment with the 2-3 zone they were running last night a bit more in that game.
February 9, 20188 yr They did what they should have done against GT. They should have a similar showing against Pitt. We'll see how they look when they get into the final stretch against teams that don't suck.

Had to be done as both FSU and Syracuse exposed just how bad Louisville’s guards have been defending drivers from the perimeter, but it’s going to have downsides and fans will be frustrated down the stretch, I think.

Sadly, I don't think the way UofL plays a zone (man principles) is going to stop perimeter drives. It might slow them down from 100 mph to 95, but that's about it. With this team, I think you need more traditional zone approach. The fact that none of the guards (with the possible exception of Perry) can stay between their man and the basket has the pernicious effect of allowing copious offensive rebounds and put backs. Below are the typical scenarios: 1 - opposing guard drives past 4, 2, 22, 30, 0, etc. into the lane; 14 or 13 (or both) come over to block / alter the shot; miss goes to whoever 14 and/or 13 left who sticks it back in uncontested 2 - same except opposing guard passes it to whoever 14 and/or 13 left who sticks it back in uncontested 3 - same except opposing guard is fouled by 14 and/or 13 on the shot which gets them in foul trouble and the "UK scenario" takes hold Depending on how good the opponent shooters are, you are probably better forcing them to shoot and trying to close out on the as they do. It's really a "pick your poison" situation.

February 9, 20188 yr GT is pretty bad so I'm not going to say UL has righted the ship. When you shoot well, it makes you look disproportionately better. The Cards did not seem to miss Adel at all (DNP due to a bum ankle). McMahon finally played better but Snider is still not scoring, although he had 7 or so assists. I like Nwora. He just seems to be a natural basketball player with good instincts. I'd like to see him get more PT.

February 9, 20188 yr Call me crazy, but the offense looked better without Adel. That's kind of what I was thinking. It might look better with King playing less, too.
February 9, 20188 yr Nice showing without Deng. Is anyone else starting to get hypersensitive about McMahon’s play?
