Covington Catholic 77 Ryle 25

I watched both games last night and seen nothing good coming from either game. It looks like a long road ahead of the basketball program at Ryle.

Of course with the exception of Rankin and the 6’8” sophomore.

What is their JV’s record?

I will find out for sure, but it's a little over 500. I really think the young eight grader will be a player, they did not plan on him playing this much varsity this year, but injuries have dictated that he plays more, Rankin is solid, number 10 on jv can shoot, and if the 6'8" young man gets stronger, they will be much improved. Coach McFarland has started the young Raiders program and had over 200 kids the first year, so the process has started to build the program.

8 and 7

8 and 7

Not bad and seems to be an improvement from the varsity production this year. Young players getting varsity minutes currently could help moving forward as well.

Wow they’ve played 15 jv games?

I was told either 8 and 6 or 8 and 7, looking at their schedule I would say they have played 14 games.

Wow that’s a lot most teams are still under 10 games.

May not be exactly fair to say that. CovCath JV and Varsity make lots of teams look bad. Ryle has struggled with injuries and youth, but they do have players coming up. Give them time. Rankin has been hurt and is hurt again. He makes a big difference in their rotation. Benton at 6’8” is only a sophomore and will continue to get stronger and improve greatly. Sophomore Gage Ashcraft, freshmen Tyler Bush and Gavin Rabe, and 8th grader Donovan Robinson are all going to be players for them in the future. The cupboard is far from bare. And I’m not a Ryle parent so that’s coming from an outsider lol

JV could have a pretty solid record with some coaching. Coaching staff top to bottom of BFFs , philosophy has really shined. You expect a little struggle with no seniors but this is just a bad product.

Wow, interesting roster, most on it should be playing at there age group or bench contributors on JV this year at best. Watch that list in a competitive varsity game, physically & mentally overwhelmed. Should be entertaining to watch who’s in Mcfarland’s ear & gets on the court to finish a long season.

I'm confused. You don't like the coaches or the players?

I like coach McFarland a lot off the floor but not sure of his ability to motivate or coach these kids at Ryle. I know he does the 6:00am workouts and does the camps but it isn't producing a winning product. I am guessing parents are fine with it though because it would be a lot "louder" on this site or from the stands.

I would say they have a very respectful record considering the injuries and people pulled up to varsity because of different reasons, ever one is a great coach from the stands. Coaching is fine.

There have been no 6:00am workouts or any strength training this season.
