How Many Coaches Have Won Titles with Different School?

Featured Replies

1985, I believe.

Walter Brugh of Paintsville was another long-time successful coach that never won a state championship. I think the loss to Crittenden County was the farthest they ever advanced.

I think that was the Joey Couch Team that lost to Crittenden. Probably was '85 or '86. Im getting old and forgetful when it comes to dates.

Hollowell did not make a final with Union County.

Hollowell's two finals:

Henderson Co. lost to Trinity, 24-28 in 1976 AAAA final

Owensboro Catholic lost to Bourbon Co., 28-39 in the 1997 AA final.

Mayfield is one. Morris, Lehey and Morris

In 76 didn't they still have the state at-large and the Louisville Champ? Henderson County wasn't AAAA then. I believe the Louisville schools were. Henderson was still in the Big 8 conference along with OHS, Catholic, Union County, Daviess County, Apollo, Madisonville, and I'm not sure who the other team was maybe Ohio County. If I am not mistaken, Henderson won the at-large championship and Trinity won the 4A championship, then beat Henderson. Trinity was as tough then as they are now.

In 1976 Henderson County beat Tates Creek 22-10 in their AAAA semifinal to gain the "at-large" birth in the final. Trinity beat Seneca 3-0 in the other AAAA semifinal to represent "Louisville." These were not separate state championships.
