Watching Rumsfeld completely reject the Powell Doctrine (use of overwhelming force) while planning the invasion and overthrow of Iran, sure didn't seem like he was "giving them everything they wanted".

So if you didn't have enough to adequately equip 200,000 troups the proper response would be to send 500,000 troups? Only if your goal is to maximize the number of poorly equipped troups on the battlefield and therefore maximize the number of casualties.

I've been asking the same thing for a LONG time LABS. Don't look for any change soon. If you look through the various P&R threads, you basically get the same anti-bush DNC talking points in EVERY thread...........Bush lied about this, Bush ignored that, Bush is stupid, Bush hates puppies, blah blah blah. It's like reading a 1000 page novel written by a five year old at times. And now it has gone beyond just Bush being stupid. In one thread, the "base" of people that watch Fox News were referred to as "ignorant". Oh the irony in that statement. I used to get a bit irritated at such posts, but now I actually find humor in them.

It is all fun...they are not going to change our minds and we are not going to change theirs.

BTW, Im glad we survived that deadly hurricane season this year. All that global warming and stuff. 06 Hurricane season was something I was dreading, and even the ocean temps in the Atlantic dropped a degree or two.

John Kerry in an interview with Bill Maher was making small chit chat about vacationing in Vermont, and Maher said he should stop over in new Hampshire and kill two birds with one stone...Kerry replied he could go to 1600 Pennsylvania and kill one bird with one stone.

21 Democrats, 1 Independent, and 1 Republican voted against the resolution to authorize the use of military force in Iraq.

 

27 Democrats voted for the resolution, along with 50 Republicans. Fifty. A simple majority was needed to pass.

 

A fine attempt to lay it at the feet of the Democrats, but I'd say you might want to put it back on the "spin cycle" again.

 

Unless someone can't read or count, it's obvious who wanted this war, who manipulated the intelligence, who "sold" this war to both Congress and the American public, and who is now being held accountable for those actions.

 

I guess if we are going to lay this war at the feet of the Democrats, we should also give them credit for the record high close of the stock markets as well? Right?

It seems that your stats show that 77 of our leaders that we as a country send to Washington were wrong.

 

I believe our country would be better served at looking at our leaders as an individuals rather than whether they have a D or R behind there name.

Watching him hammer the Chairman of the JCOS everyday for eight months, DEMANDING that the war should and could be fought with an absolute skeleton force (now known mockingly as the "Rumsfeld Doctrine") sure looked like a man intent on minimizing the appearance of risk to the people of our armed forces, while selling a pathetic plan to the public.

 

My head is spinning. I need to watch the O'Reilly factor, where I'm sure they'll soon be labeling Hastert as a Democrat, while throwing him to the wolves as well.

I believe that they didn't expect the terrorists to focus so much on Iraq as they have. And you think about it, that is a little surprising. Afghanstan has Osama and why not make it the focal point of the war. But yet, Iraq has become the focal point.

 

My view is that the forces we are fighting are not totally Iraq in nature. But has become the focal point of the terrorists.

The Bush Administration would have been happy to give the troups everything they wanted if the administration had it to give them. Unfortunately, when Bush took office the military didn't have enough equipment to fight what is by historical standards a small war. (Right now we have about 140,000 troups in Iraq, we had over 600,000 troups in Vietnam at the peak of fighting, and we had millions involved in WWII.) The Bush Administration ramped up as fast as they could but it takes a while to rebuild a military that had been in the process of being dismantled for years.

 

Of course you stand down a military that hasn't been at war in 30 years.

And you build it back up BEFORE you go to war. Unless you completely underestimate the situation. Sound Familiar?

Why is it both sides like to quote the extreme mouthpieces for the other side. The Rush's, the Ann Coulter's, the Al Franken's, the Bill Maher's. They are there for entertainment and to get ratings much, much more than they are to TRULY and ACCURATELY represent a view. What they say should have ZERO bearing on anything in this country.

I know I don’t post in here much but I used to love to read the good threads but that is not an option anymore. It has gotten beyond childish now. Just my opinion.

I agree and glad you just said the Politics part of the forum. There still is some great discussions on the Religion side of this forum.:thumb:

 

Although I will point out that the Politics forum, no matter the title end up being a Rep did this and the Dems did nothing thread, are not much different than a UK Basketball or Reds thread. UK Basketball devolves into a fire tubby thread and the Reds thread devolves into either a need pitching or trade Dunn thread.
