Not to derail the thread, but the only thing that needs work in Ohio is to separate the publics and privates/open-enrollment schools come playoff time. It makes no sense having teams play each other with two different sets of rules in regards to how they got the athletes that wear their uniforms.

Once that problem is fixed, all will be well.

PS: The GMC has 10 teams. We actually have 4 teams in the playoffs this year.

That's a massive improvement from when I played. I thought they expanded the league further in the last 5-10 years, but I was wrong.

Ding, Ding, Ding! Now we have identified the agenda. I couldn't figure out why your opinion of the Trinity scheduling philosophy made you sound like someone whizzed in your Wheaties. Now I know. There is nothing wrong with the Trinity schedule. They play a number of strong regional teams and the district teams they need to play to qualify for the Kentucky playoffs. Games that would require missing school or overnight stays are not desirable or needed. Getting a tenth game this year was hard. That's why the Florida team was on the schedule without a return date being offered. If it continues to be hard to get a full schedule the administration may have to rethink the idea of long distance games. For now, things are fine the way they are.

There is no agenda. It began from this comment: "They won every game on probably the toughest schedule anyone in the state of Kentucky has ever played." Which, after the season is over, clearly holds no water.

I don't disagree with your bolded comment above. Things are "fine" the way they are now, no question. You sound like an old person who doesn't want to put in the work to strive for excellence. A person who doesn't want to do everything possible to give these young men, who pay a butt-load of money to attend your alma mater, the best possible experience while sacrificing hundreds of hours every year to put Trinity in the record books with their 800th state title. Is that who you are? More importantly, is that what they taught you at Trinity?

Trinity 2017..."Strive for Fine...it's good enough!"

Trinity can keep doing what they are doing and keep winning 6A KY Titles...which mean absolutely NOTHING when you consider the parameters by which their school is filled vs. those of their competition. I mean, how much can a "State" title really mean if in reality, you only ever have 1 other school to worry about? Honestly.

That's why I raised the topic of playing outside their little 100 mile bubble. Yeah, playing Indy powers and Cincy powers is "fine", but if you are trying to demonstrate to the young men you are grooming in your halls that you should strive for excellence in everything you do, why not SHOW them that in the most high profile output the school has to offer? And don't give me any garbage about football being "secondary" at Trinity. It is the #1 most recognizable commodity at that school, PERIOD. Not the drama program (do they even have one?), the academics, the faith-based outreach...none of it brings in the cash and attention that the football program does. Not. Even. CLOSE.

Enjoy your Wheaties

If St. Xavier arranged a trip out of the 100 mile radius, Trinity may be forced to follow suit. I agree with your premise.

What does that mean? Can't tell if you are mocking me or if there is actually an effort afoot to "raise the bar" of

Care to explain as opposed to leaving cryptic one-liner bombs?

I hope so. Right now Trinity is trying to buy a tenth game next season. I understand what you are saying.

You are fortunate the Colerain can not be forced to split. In Kentucky, we build new schools without any referendum needed. More schools, more teachers, more administration.....

I find it amazing how many people who don't have any affiliation with T knows what's good for T....

I think CardinalsFan's complaint should be with everyone else in KY.

The schedule:

ST X- great rivalry, great program, lots of louisville history

Male-Great rivalry, great program, lots of Louisville History

Moeller- year in and year out a solid program, great history, catholic school

Carmel- Defending 6A Indiana State Champion, have played many games before

Warren Central- MaxPreps #28 in the country in 2016

Champagnat(Miami,Fla)- only losses to Trinity and 7-0 University. Lost the 2A Florida state final last year.

ALL DISTRICT GAMES AND ARE REQUIRED

Ballard

Seneca

Eastern

J-town

In the games they have a choice in, the schedule is solid. From year to year, teams go up and down. You can't blame Trinity for Warren Central and Carmel not be as good as last year.

Again , your gripe is with the rest of Kentucky and their ability , not with trinity's schedule.

Now if you want to cut a check for Gorman or Don Bosco to come in, I am sure they will work on it.

Tell me, how proud do you feel sitting here on November 1 knowing your alma mater is going to win their 25th State Title and will do so comfortably? Does that actually give you a sense of pride? Beating up on a bunch of schools that could never hope to compete with you?

Would never presume to know, let alone tell, someone else what is best for them. I was just merely asking why a program with the long history of success that Trinity has doesn't try and up their game now and then, that's all.

I'm good with it.....T has played national powers Brentwood, Ensworth, Colerain, Moeller, Carmel, Warren Central, Elder home and home games just to name a few the last couple of years to include Male and X...i personally see no reason to fly kids across the country to play a game of football when you have teams in the region that are year in and year out ranked within the top 100....you can try to put whatever spin you want on it but at the end of the day this is still high school football and not college

Let's review some of the outcomes of Trinity games through the years:

2015 Lost to Male 20-19 in quarterfinals

2014 Beat St. X 9-3 in quarterfinals

2013 Lost to Male 31-7 in quarterfinals

2012 Beat St X 15-14 in quarterfinals and defeated Scott County 21-14 in semi-finals

2011 National Champs- did edge Cincy St X 17-7-special team

2010 regular season tested: Beat Bowling Green 14-12 (which is when the Purples bailed on the series)

2009 Lost to St X 34-10 in State Final-Mike Glaser's last State Title

2008 Lost to St X regular season 30-6 Beat St X 28-21 in semi-finals

2007 Beat St X 34-28 OT State Final

2006 Beat Male 38-34 in quarterfinals

2005 Beat St X 14-6 in State Final

2004 Lost to Dixie Heights 14-10 in second round

2003 Beat St X 17-14 in State Final

2002 Beat Male 59-56 in State Final

2001 Beat Male 45-19 in State Final

2000 Lost to Male 34-14 in State Final

My point is Trinity has not dominated Kentucky to the degree as Bishop Gorman owns Nevada (6 titles in a row). Nor have the Rocks won 50 games in a row since 1988-1991. We are not destroying everyone by 40 or more points. Trinity still has to work hard to win State Championships. They are not simply handed to the Rocks. There are a limited number of schools in Kentucky that will compete annually with Trinity in football. Trinity strives for perfection. The number one goal is to win the State Championship each year.

I am satisfied Trinity plays teams from Indy, Cincy, & Nashville as they become available. The number one goal IS TO WIN THE STATE TITLE. National Rankings are icing on the cake. Some would say fluff. TAKE STATE! That is the the main prize for this football team.

Ok...a couple of posters who I respect and feel has a pulse for the people of the Trinity community say 6A State Titles in KY are enough, they're enough I guess.

Thought there might be a few posters who would want to make an argument for something more.

Thanks for the conversation and the honest feedback. Much appreciated.

I'm very proud to be a Trinity graduate. In an earlier post you accused me of being old. Younger than some, older than most. That means that I have over fifty years of experience knowing what Trinity is about. It isn't football. Football is a means, not an end. It is about forming men of faith and men of character. It is about providing a world class education. It is about making what Trinity offers available to a student body that is the most diverse of any private school in the area. Proud? You bet. Couldn't be prouder.

While I agree with you 100%, he is referring solely to the football aspect of Trinity.

While I agree with you 100%, he is referring solely to the football aspect of Trinity.

And that is the problem. Whenever anything is as successful as Trinity football there is a natural desire to let that tail wag the dog. That can't ever happen. The focus has to be on the real mission of the school. There is nothing inherently wrong with travelling a long distance to play games, unless it starts to interfere with more important things. A schedule that necessitates athletes missing class is not a good idea. A schedule that reduces revenue, even if the costs are picked up by someone else is not a good idea. I am not naïve. I know that there are compromises that are needed sometimes. At some point that could even include long distance games, but I think we should recognize those games as a last resort.
