Mark Martin leaving Roush for MB2

Featured Replies

Glad that he will still race, too bad it's not for Roush though.

Did the article say what car he'll drive?

Team owner Jack Roush, who has fielded a Ford for Martin in

NASCAR's top series since 1988, is expected to make the announcement Friday

at 10:30am/et at Talladega Superspeedway. MB2 general manager Jay Frye has

scheduled a news conference for later Friday morning at the Talladega

track. Martin reportedly will share the ride in the #01 Chevrolet with

rookie Regan Smith, a 23-year-old regular in the Busch Series, a source told

The Associated Press. Joe Nemechek, currently racing in the #01, will

remain with MB2, but will move to a third team entry, while Sterling Marlin

will stay in the team's #14 Chevy. Roush team president Geoff Smith said

several weeks ago that the team would definitely not field a Cup car for

Martin in 2007 and that it was close to completing a deal with Martin to

drive a Roush truck. But that deal apparently fell apart after the MB2 ride

became available. The source said it was unclear if Martin might also drive

in the truck series in 2007, along with the MB2 ride.(ESPN.com)(10-6-2006)

I think the weirdest thing will be seeing Martin in a chevrolet

It will definitely be strange seeing him driving a Chevrolet, but then again, they're all essentially the same just with different decals and paint! And with COT coming, there will be even less differences in the makes... Toyota will even be the same, and that's a scary thought! One we might as well get used to, though.

So sorry to hear that a class act and talented driver as Mark Martin is, will be put in the class of Bill Elliott and Terry Labonte to drive junk rides at the end of their careers. What is Mark Martin thinking? He just should have taken the top fulltime ride at Roush in the truck series, he'd probably win that, and eventually retired gracefully. Now is storied career will end shameful, finishing 25-35 every week like all of the rest of MB2's cars. It's very mind-boggling why he would do this to this career. He said before the 2005 season that that would be his last, to be able to spend more time with his family, Roush talked him into another year in the 6 car. Now he wants to stay? MB2?? The 2005 season was the farewell tour for him and Rusty, Mark's decision. I dunno. I just don't get it. I hate to see Mark end his Nextel career just riding around the track part time in a subpar car especially when he is in this chase this year. Roush has done alot over the years to give Mark a chance. I am no fan of Jack Roush, but it seems like Mark's loyalties are in question. It's not like he needs the money. MB2???

Storied career? Whats storied about it? Has he ever actually won a big race? Not really he won the Coca Cola 600 but not any of the other big races or the title. I'm glad to see Mark Martin get out of the way and give someone else that ride that can get the most of it. You know he probably has the best equipment at Rouch and what does he do with it? Nothing. He runs around if he lets people go by him and takes what they leave him. He should have atleast 2 or 3 wins this season with that car.

Another thing all Mark does is whine. Everytime they ask him about his car this is the response or something similar. "Well our car is junk today we'll see where we end up". Now he will see what "junk" really is.

I'd like to see Martin win Da Championship cause he is deserving. I don't get the part time rides, it hasn't worked since Cale Yarborough did it back in the early 80's. As competitive as he is I can't see him just riding around to the finish.

Martin is 10 points behind in the chase...and consistently finishes in the to 5 in the standings. He has done nothing though....

A possible championship isnt junk. He has a GREAT shot at winning it this year.

Mark Martin isnt going to win the title. I promise you that. He will screw it up some how.

Take those blinders off! :irked: Your thought process doesn't seem to work here like it usually does. If not for Mark, there wouldn't be a Roush Racing today! :thumb:

I agree with you, if he finishes in the top 5 the car was junk, but if he runs around all day in 15th after the race that car will be the best he ever had. I also agree with every word of your above post.
