Belfry/Cabell Midland (WV) Predictions

Featured Replies

Big inter-state showdown

These two have met the last two seasons and split the series. The last time Belfry went to Cabell Midland they got ran off the field.

Midland is the largest school in WV and Calpreps has them as the #4 overall team in the State.

Midland boasts a scary good backfield led by Junior Ivan Vaughn who may be the best RB in the Mountain State. I want to say both teams come in averaging over 300 rushing yards per game.

Midland's losses are to Cincy Anderson 49-41 (Anderson is 6-0 in Division II) and to Capital WV 55-49 (Capital's only losses are to Johnson Central and Huntington) on a last second Hail Mary. They beat Hurricane, WV 41-21 (Hurricane is Paintsville's only loss)

Belfry's only loss was to Huntington, WV 45-34. Calpreps has Huntington as the #1 overall team in WV.

Midland's backfield is scary good as mentioned, through 5 games Midland has rushed for a total of 2462 yards (492.4 per game). They have also passed 10/21 182 yards 3 TD's and 0 INT's.

QB Jovaun Light averages 91.6 per game on the ground (458 in 5 games), 6 rushing TD's

RB Ivan Vaughn averages 201.3 yards per game on the ground (805 in 4 games), 11 rushing TD's

RB Isaiah Duncan averages 153.7 yard per game on the ground (461 in 3 games), 5 rushing TD's

Sounds like Belfry may have their hands full.

They will.

No one's hands will be empty, that's for sure.

Hopefully I can make it to this one. Should be a dandy!

Will there be any video streamed online?
I don't know. If we hear of one, I will post it.

Midland does some things offensively that will really test Belfry's defense. Belfry's team speed is pretty good, and they move well laterally, so I don't think the Knights will kill us outside, but the power run game between the tackles may cause problems. I am anxious to see how much Belfry has improved since the Huntington game in week 1 in that regard.

Midland's got good size up front, and they look very physical on film. Typical CM.

Hey Tusi,

Sent you a PM and it got lost somewhere! I'm doing this from memory and I'm sure you still have your facts from 1695! Thanks to the roster you sent me BOTH O-Lines are pretty well even. I think Belfry's offense is scoring at close to a point a minute when the regulars are in! I think I either read on here or again you told me

1 Also think they lead the state in rushing and total points per game! Not bad for losing around a thousand pounds of prime beef! Their Interior D-Line HAS to slow down the quality backs of CM BUT have really shown great improvement since the Huntington game! We have also had quite a bit of improvement being able to play just about everybody! If my feeble mind is correct I think Belfry was down 14-7 to CM with about five minutes left in the first half when they decided to play hot potato and put the ball on the ground THREE straight times either on kickoffs or 1st and 2nd down turning a 14-7 game into a runaway, (clock and all)! Two more scores and it was game, set and match from 14-7 to a 35-7 halftime lead! Tack on two more and it really looked bad! Think they put the ball on the ground eight times and added an interception for good measure! Otherwise a good game minus the turnovers! Then for good measure the next week at CAM they put it on the ground it 7 times and threw an interception against a much weaker opponent in Lawrence County and with about 2:24 were trailing when Coach Haywood called a timeout, and read them the riot act! They then marched it 60 or 70 yards for the winning score! Same song different verse this year! Had Huntington 27-7 and gave up 4 or 5 fumbles to GIVE it away! Same thing at Newport Central although we won that one after Coach Haywood pulled half of his hair out! I feel good about the Cabell Midland game! I call it a toss up and STILL compare Belfry to Boyle County and think they have a good shot to win it all again! I Still don't know how this crazy playoff schedule goes, BUT I think ONE of the usual suspects will win it all! I sense you are leaning toward Cabell Midland and also think you pick one of the usual suspects will win it all! "How the West was Won" not quite ready yet except for either Boyle, (think they are out of the west this year), or possibly E-Town! Last horse in MY race! So what do YOU think Tusi? My novel is over! BTW. Didn't mean ALL of this for just you, but do know you know your stuff my friend!
