I certainly think Mayfield is stronger than Pikeville and they gave Belfry all they wanted, so, yes, thats what I think would happen..

Isnt Pikeville vs Belfry a rivalry game? You cant base that judgement on one game.

Based on what they did last year? I realize that HC's schedule isn't quite as tough as NCC, but their one loss came to a decent Simon Kenton team and they also beat a pretty decent Holmes team in addition to several others. They also won the head to head game, which for some reason, doesn't seem to matter much in polls these days because people are too hung up on past history and preseason expectations. It's not a knock against BGP but I've seen several times where teams won the head to head game and stayed ranked behind the team they beat.
I assume the people in northern Kentucky, who know the teams well, still believe that NewCath is better, despite the result. Upsets do happen, you know.

Bellevue beat Beechwood last year. Should they have been ranked above the Tigers? Were they really better than Beechwood, or was it simply an upset?

I'm not sure but I don't think Bellevue was 5-1 and Beechwood 2-5 following the game. I see what you're saying about upsets but sometimes a win is called an upset based more on last year as opposed to how good the teams really are this year. I'm not saying HC should be #1 and NCC #10, but I think HC at #5 and NCC at #7 isn't too unbelievable of a scenario, based on their on-field play in 2006 and nothing else.

I don't think it's all that unbelievable, either, but Holy Cross was also thumped by a so-so Simon Kenton team. NewCath has fared as well or better against tougher teams.

NewCath has played a brutal schedule ... that is why they are 2-5. The same thing happened to Mayfield a few years ago and people wrote them off, only to see them get to the semifinals and push Danville to the brink.

NewCath could be in the finals. They may not get past Beechwood. But I would have trouble penalizing them for their record when very few Class A teams play that kind of a schedule. Few, if any, Class A teams would be any better than 2-5 against that slate.

I would think so.

I guess what I am saying is, both are considered good teams who have played a tougher schedule than most Class a teams. Yet, the best indicator of how good they really are (head to head) isn't factored as a high as hypothetical situations seems to be.

"Team A wouldn't have the same record as Team B if they played the same schedule."

"IF they played tomorrow, Team A would beat Team B."

I know it's hard to rank the teams and that the AP Poll goes by record only. I also realize upsets happen, but my question is this. If Beechwood beats Holy Cross by say 20 points, is that a bigger indictment against Holy Cross or against Newport Catholic who lost to both teams close?

Cant believe the Raceland Rams arent in the top ten in Class A football. Must be some mistake on that poll. The rams are ligit.

Lexington Christian is 5-2, beat Raceland, and played a tougher schedule. They should get in ahead of Raceland.

yes, Ive seen Mayfield play, 3 times to be exact and yes, I think they would come out 5-2 or maybe 4-3 at worse...certainly not 2-5...I also don't think NCC would have as good a record as Mayfield if they had played the Cards schedule....I would personally have Mayfield ranked 3rd at this point, behind Danville and Bardstown only..I'm not quite sold on Beechwood yet either...

Have you seen New Cath, Cov Cath or Beechwood play at all this year? Or are you just looking at the scoreboard results every friday night?

Not seen any of the 3...get most my info on here and on scores..Do know what Mayfield has done y-t-d and my opinion is like 99% of everyone elses, based the same way...

Mayfield is one of those teams you are referring to......so basically these to teams appear to be the same......only Newcath has a poor record so it would make all the sense in the world to rank Mayfield ahead of them.......get real dude....

Well, at least there is a playoff system in high school. Unlike the NCAA.  So, if you think your team is being shortchanged, they can do something about it on the field.:thumb:

This is my point exactly...People wrote them off, but, the same isn't being done to NCC...You didn't see Mayfield at 2-5 ranked in the Top 4, did you?

This is my WHOLE point...Thanks for making it for me...

Your point?

You could have made it from the beginning. Now it sounds like you're changing course. It sure seemed like you were being critical of NewCath's ranking in the beginning.
