NFL Players from your School

Featured Replies

Phil Simms attended Southern High School and St. Rita grade school in Louisville. He was Catholic, so there is a good chance his sons would have attended Catholic high school.

I belive Don Bosco Prep, in NJ is a Catholic School..Funny thing is, with being from Rita, etc...I bet they would have a hard time deciding, because that's X territory, but we pass more.

Trinity might have 3 active at the same time: (soon)

Brian Brohm, Dylan Thiery, and Rob Bironas

Isn't Boone County's stadium named after a former player that played in the NFL for quite a few years?

Just got word that BC's field is now named after Owen Hauck. It used to be named after Irv Goode.

Sherman Lewis and Steve Wright-Manual-1959

Dickie Lyons-St. X-1965

Joe Federspeil-DeSales-1967

Mark Sander-DeSales-1985

Dean Wells-Holy Cross-1987

Jeff Brohm-Trinity-1987

Lawrence Brame-Hopkinsville-1965?CFL

Dickie Moore-Owensboro?1965?-CFL

Nice list. Confining my post to Jefferson County schools, did Bob Talamini (sp) play in the NFL? My memory says that he was a guard who played in the old AFL (Joe Namath's first league) and possibly in the NFL once the two leagues merged. He was, I think, a grad of St. X.

Also, did Walt Gahm play in the NFL? He was another OL who played for X in the early 60's and then had a nice college career at Purdue, I believe.

Did Sherrill (sp) Sipes, Hornung's teammate at Flaget High, ever get into the NFL?

By the way, I know some older fellows from Mayfield who apparently played against Lawrence Brame. They uniformly say he was heck on wheels.

I had thought about which Catholic school the son would attend. While we should not exclude DeSales or Holy Cross, because of numbers and because although St. Rita was Phil's home parish, I would imagine he may be in a different socio-economic situation now, the odds are that he may move east and his son would attend X or T. Indeed, T throws more, but X would turn him into a darned good running back or linebacker!:D

It's both actually. The stadium is Owen Hauck Stadium, but it is still Irv Goode Field.

Talamini - Yes. He is in the Oilers' Hall of Fame.

Gahm - I could find no NFL record for him.

Sipes-No. he was Horning's best friend in grade school and HS at Flaget. They broke Bear Bryant's heart and signed with Notre Dame. Sipes, the Kentucky state champion sprinter, injured his leg, effectivey ending his football career. He moved to San Francisco and became a successful attorney. Horung, the "Golden Boy", followed the wishes of his devoutly Catholic mother when he went to Notre Dame. He won a still disputed Heisman in 1956, and is in the NFL Hall of Fame. He still holds the NFL single season scoring record.

Thanks for the info on Brame. I wonder where he is now?

Talamini has a Superbowl ring from the Jets/Colts game in Superbowl III. He was named to the second team All-Time All-AFL team.

Mr. Diogenes,

This is a little off topic, but I believe that Chris Sheehan, the DL from X a few years back who signed with Boston College, is the nephew of Sherrill Sipes.

Chuck Kyle from Highlands,Purdue then the NY Jets.
