The reason why I like this is that they don't have to ride Wade from game 1 to the playoffs. Same way with Thomas (who obviously isn't even going to be ready for game 1). But the fact that Thomas may not be available until January I think actually works in their favor. As he starts to come back, they can start resting Wade more and more. That way when the playoffs roll around, hopefully both of them will have their legs under them. At least that's what I'm hoping.

The entire season hinges on the health of Isiah Thomas.

I am not sold that Thomas brings much to the Cavs. I don't see how a 5'9" ball dominate SG meshes with their setup.
