You missed the word in my post that said HOPED he would be a cornerstone of the rotation like Smoltz has been in Atlanta. Didn't say he would be as good as Smoltz but a cornerstone. I would take him being as good as Smoltz though.
October 4, 200619 yr Author You're foolish if you sign any pitcher to a contract longer than three years. Understand the reasoning but here is a thought. What if Harang does what we hope he does in the next 3 years. What will a top 5-10 in the NL starting pitcher command in 4 years. $15-20 mil per season? When you could have locked him up this year for the next 6 years at $8-10 mil per season.

What have they done after signing their deals. Extremely risky to go past three years. They already have a prime example on staff in Eric Milton.

You run the same risk with non-pitchers too. Look at JR.

I really have much other things to remember rather than contract status of a multi-millionaire that plays a game for a living. Didn't the Rocket sign a long-term contract sometime in the mid 90's? I don't know the answer to the question but what about Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine? What was the status of their contracts mid-90's?
