Is it being played on Friday due to the Cumberland/Union College game being played that Saturday at Campbell Field?

That is one of the reasons. The other Coach Jewell wants to get on Friday schedual ASAP for the rest of the season. They will play the first week on a Saturday. Corbin will play Dunbar the first year and Knox Central in 2008.

That Friday is August 31.

These teams are a far cry from the days of Male, Lex Cath, and Moeller. It seemed that the Pigskin classic was one of the best in the state during this era. I suppose the financial backing is not the same as it was back in the "glory days". I wonder if Whitley County, Williamsburg, Lynn Camp were contacted about participating? Some sort of bowl game featuring these teams along with Corbin would draw record crowds, plenty of money and an overall great time for fans, players and media. If Middlesboro and Knox Central are added for local flavor instead of state level competition then this event is certainly headed in a downward spiral.

It may not be possible, Corbin play a good team, and follow that up with a high proflie type high school game. Maybe invite like, Trinity and a Super 25 type team. Just an idea, may not be possible but it would make for a great game.

I think they are going more towards who will bring the bigger crowds nowdays yet still trying to keep some good matchups. I was told that with so many bowl games this day and age, it's hard to get teams to come play. Probably 7 out of every 10 schools host their own bowl each year.

The biggest reason that Corbin no longer gets the type teams that you mentioned above is because Vin Hoover is no longer involved in the bowl game. He worked tirelessly recruitiing the best teams he could find and would spare no expense to get them. The Varsity Club still does a good job with it, but it has lost much of it's luster.

That is true and part of the reasoning is the travel cost/time for teams for teams. With there being so many many games now days most teams take the more reasonable trip.

thats a big part of it too.

Another problem instead of this being the opening game for Corbin, as it used to be, it has become the second game. If Corbin gets beat the first game it hurts the crowd for the Pigskin. The teams for the last two years had no crowd following.

I think i wil have to argue with that, despite the rough season i think we have had a pretty good fan following.

Bubba thinks he was making reference to Oldham, East Jessamine and Pikeville fans not pouring out this past season. The Redhound pound always follows them wild dawgs.
