11th Region

Recommended Posts

Why is the 11th region so messed up? Why do they have private schools playing in the same district as public schools, when the public schools aren't allowed to play one of the private schools.

I have a suggestion on how to fix it.

In 1 district you have Woodford, Frankfort, Western Hills and Franklin Co.in the next district you have Madison Central, Berea, Madison Southern and Model.

Then you put Lex Cath., Lex Christian, Scott Co. and Sayer in a district.

Then you have the five city schools in a district.

Can I have some feed back on this?

What public schools aren't allowed to play the private schools?

I know Madison Central plays Lexington Catholic. Also I've seen Catholic's schedule and they are playing against the Lexington public schools this upcoming season.

Lexington public schools won't be able to play them again after this year

It's not a matter of public schools not being able to play the private schools, it's that they choose to not play Lexington Catholic. I believe the public schools choose to play Sayre and Lexington Christian in all sports but elect not to play Lexington Catholic unless it's absolutely necessary. Since Dunbar, Tates Creek and Lafayette are all in the 43rd district with LexCath, they either must play them or forfeit the games. Thus far, they are not willing to do that. I guess their principles only go so far

If that is the case then you put the five public schools in one district like the old days and put the other 4 in the other dictrict.

At this point there is no reason for the public schools not to play Lex Cath. Their players have been developed through the parochial system and their middle school program. I would estimate that better than 90% of their players are Catholic.

Since their penalties of last year I believe they are being very careful with financial aid. I personally have strong opinions about significant financial aid being available to non Catholic students.

Bottom line is they have a great basketball program and it starts from the bottom up. That is what the public schools need to figure out. They need to improve their feeder programs.

How can you improve the feeder system when the middle schools only get to play 8 games a year when other counties get 12 to 15 games a year?

How come the middle schools only get to play 8 games a year?
I believe that is a rule that the Fayette County School system has set. I remember something about it because when my youngest son was at Madison Middle they did a story in the Herald-Leader. Madison Middle played around 25 games that year and the Lexington Middle Schools were only allowed to play 8.

Putting Scott Co in with the private schools....WHY!! I do like their chances every year. I think Scott Co will be leaving the 11th in 2009. Remember where you heard it.

When Creek plays Station what does it mean? "Nothing"! When Dunbar plays Henry Clay what does it mean? "Nothing"! But they still have to play each other two times every year, if you're going to do that make it mean something other than a regular season game. I'm from the old school and like the tradition. Let me ask you this how would people in say Ashland feel if Boyd Co. and Ashland played twice a year and it didn't mean anything how would they feel or Laurel Co. feel if North and South had to play twice how would they react. That the question I'm asking?

As far as the Middle School lack of games goes. Around 1994 the middle school administrators wanted to go to intramurals so all could play. They compromised in a way. They made a rule of no cut and everyone will play at least a quarter (jr. pro style). They also cut down the schedule. Therefore, if you had a son that was pretty good and you could afford to send them to a private school, you did. The ones that went did well, the ones that stayed behind were not given the opportunity to get better. If you look at the time when Lexington was producing D1 player after player it ceased when the middle schoolers that were dealt a bad hand by the administrators, with above said rule, entered high school. Hoops in Lexington hasn't been the same since.
